I started to get a knocking noise on the back of the 406. Had a quick look and it turns out the top link on the drivers side is going. The wheel moves from 9o'clock to 3 o'clock and you can see some movement in the bush. This set has only lasted 14000 miles not even a year so this time i've gone for a dearer set of top links hoping that they will last a bit longer The last lot were off ebay so i don't think i'll be buying off there again must be made in china = poor quality control.
I think the dirt track i drive up and down 4 times a day has destroyed most of my suspension over the last two years . At least this job won't be too bad as i greased the last set up with copaslip when i fitted them. I also have a spare set of nuts and bolts that i took off another 406 in the breakers just in case. I'll let you know how i get on. Having a go at this on monday. Soaking all the bolts tommorow night.

Re: NEW TOP LINKS
Just spent 1.5hrs fitting the new top link. Went well and the bolt that goes through the bush came out easy enough i'd put plenty of copaslip on last time so it helped alot. Put a mark on the bolt and subframe before taking apart if you follow the how to guide in the knowledgebase its quite easy and theres some pictures too. A good tip is to soak the bolts in wd40 or whatever you have the night before and when you reassemble put plenty of copaslip on the shanks of the bolt and a smear on the face of the cams/washers. Theres not much room underneath to get spanners/ratchet in but you can just about do it. The fiddly bit was getting the balljoint nut tightened up as the allen key slot was a soft metal so make sure you have a good hex socket for tightening it. I'm going to do the other side on wednesday. The top link i took off was knackered and the bush end was flopping about and perished the balljoint wasn't too bad though. Don't buy top links off ebay. Its worth paying a bit more for these in the long run. Hopefully these will last a bit longer than 1year/14ooo miles.
