SQEALING REAR BRAKES

Hi
Having a problem with the rear pads. A while ago i took jaspers advice when i had this problem before and filed chamfers on the pads cleaned everything up etc put it back together and it was fine for a long time. Well now the problem is back i cleaned them up again about a week again and put copaslip on them. It only sqeals when its in reverse gear. When you're going forward its fine. The pads i've got in just now are down to about halfway 5-6mm i'd say. I had a thought i've got a set of shims that i bought from peuegot ages ago. I didn't fit them when y these pads went in because it was a real tight fit but now they are down to halfway i might just try them and see if they make any difference. I can't remember which way round they go i'm assuming the metal side of the shim goes next to the pad and the other side with the rubber surface goes against the caliper? I think thats right? Any help would be appreciated. The sqealing brakes need to go......Lol

spin the hubs,
if one side is sticking it might be a sticky caliper

Hi

I cleaned up the caliper sliders and used copa slip on them so they are ok. The pistons go back easy. They are both new calipers so no problem with those, when i fitted these pads and discs i had one caliper that was dodgy, the pads and discs were overheating so i bought a new set of calipers had the money at the time and i was getting a bit fed up with the amount of time i had to fiddle about with them.

The pads and discs on at the moment are GSF's own brand Vetech. I was thinking about getting a set of brembo discs and some mintex pads when these discs and pads wear out as thats what I've got on the front and they seem to be a good set of brakes. I was thinking the shims may stop the sqealing. When you spin the wheels theres no binding only a very slight rub but not enough to worry about and the brakes usaully only feel a bit warm after a long run.

When i stripped the brakes down last time i checked to make sure the backplates were not rubbing as i've had this problem in the past. Took the discs off and scrapped a lot of rusty metal off the bit in the middle where the disc makes contact. The backplates are like a patchwork quilt i've had to use fibreglass to patch up the holes....

I'll let you know how i get on having a go tommorow. Just off outside to have another go at the cv gaitor i told you about have a Jubilee clip now.
Thanks

please get a 2nd opinion before trying this.

but a good friend of mine told me to use fairy liquid on brakes. it stops all squeeks and still alows the brakes to work ok.
