Mine sounded like it was falling to bits over the slightest bump ipulled and tugged on the droplinks
and they looked fine they looked like theyd been on a while so ichanged them all the noise disapeared
sometimes the droplinks look ok when the car is jacked up but when the weights on them theyre loose,
icheck them with the wheel on and car on the ground now and just pull on the links if theres play there off and binned,

yep i also agree DROPLINKS very very easy to change. 2 bolts is all (an angle grinder may be required to get the old ones off) they seize like sh*t to a blanket
i get mine from ebay , the ones for £10 odd for 2. never had any problems with these ones.
but my current front droplinks have been on now 11 months and are still going strong (the ones from ebay)
some say dont get rear links from ebay because they dont last long, but my fronts are from ebay .

dont worry about it for now mate.
get yourself 2 new ones from ebay only £10 odd (£10.39 i think)
when you get the new part you will see were they go on the car (if you dont know were they are now)
it really is as easy as taking 2 bolts out knocking the link bar out and bolting new 1 in.

they get worse and worse if its fubard droplinks,
they start of with a creak then a click then rattle like feck then clunk.
Ialways Go for the QH branded ones or theres a cheaper brand thats good too Firstline or something like that the brand is,
Ive Tried Ebay ones on Ford cars and They Didnt last a month Total garbage,
Idont know what the 406 ebay ones are like

had the same with mine but on the nearside, but didn't do it as badly when turning?
I replaced both, which was good advice - problem gone
Glad to see you got it fixed
