Rear Brake Back Plate

I was adjusting my handbrake at the weekend "again" and notice the rear brake back plate was very rusted and rotted does anyone know if you can buy cheap copies and are they hard to fit or is it a hub off job

Cheap copies, no. I believe the only source of them is the dealers at around £95 each. Changing them isn't a pretty job either as it involves removal and refitting of the calliper, disc, shoes (:evil:) and wheel hub (which is apparently a non-reusable part)

I attacked mine with hammer+chisel (flat-head screwdriver :oops:) and a wire brush, then bent up the fold in the metal to clear out the bulges before punching it back into shape. Sorted out the grinding on the disc ok...

What about Ade? Or does he want to keep them with the swinging arm? (Hmm, probably still cheaper than the stealers...)

That's much better than the stealer's anyway. Haynes says you need a puller to get the hubs off & this is what kills them but other people on here have said the hub just about falls off, so maybe it would be an idea to undo the hub nuts (after marking them in position and counting the turns so they go back in the same place if it proves necessary) & see if it'll come off with a little persuasion. Failing that it's scan ebay etc. for cheaper hubs (remembering to count the number of teeth on the abs reluctor rings, which I think is 48 for a D9)

I'm wondering if you could put a small amount of force on the hubs with a puller and give the hub a few light taps with a hammer. I reckon that, even if you do mess them up, they'll probably be ok for long enough to get replacements :?

Or there's always welding up the backplates in position as best you can...
