Re: FRONT SUSPENSION ARMS
It's trade off of time v bu99eration factor for me.
I've done quite a bit of rebushing in my time using the vice method.
When I got my 406 it needed bushes and the bjs. I thought the kit for a oner was good value.
Well done for tackling the job and doing it yourself.
It would only take a few trips to a local garage (fuel) and slipping the odd fiver to say thanks and the saving can be gone. It's quite a thin line sometimes.
I run all the family's 3 cars on a shoestring (mileage 486,000 and 37 years between them). Buy parts well and save a fortune not paying garage labour.

Re: FRONT SUSPENSION ARMS
I've just been doing the front bushes on the suspension arms today. What a job. I couldn't get the bush out with the press. Tried using a vice and that didn't work either. So i did what i usually do cut four slits in the metal casing on the inside and chiseled them out and i've cut 4 more slits in the casing on the outside of the bush. Just need to use a small chisel/ drift to push whats left of the bush out. I think this has been one of the hardest bushes i've done so far. Even used my mini blowtorch to burn some of the rubber out. I packed up when the light started to fade. Hopefully the next part should be easier.....

Re: FRONT SUSPENSION ARMS
Quick update on how i've got on so far. I got the bush out in the end. The quickest way i found was to use a small sharp chisel on the lip where the bush meets the arm i bashed the lip inwards and worked all the way round until the bits all met in the middle also sprayed small penetrating oil down the sides then using a large drift i bashed the metal inards inwards and then eventually the whole bush came out. Next one should be a lot easier to do now i've worked that out. The new bushes are now sitting in the freezer. lol. I'll have a go at pressing the new ones in tommorow. Nice day here theres a diesel loco gala here this weekend so i'll be taking my son on one of the loco's ths afternoon. Theres a beer tent as well........

Re: FRONT SUSPENSION ARMS
I've just fitted the new suspension arms today. The old ones that came off were knackered, when you push down on the old ones you could see the rubber perishing under the force of pushing down. It all went okay took about 2.5 hours to do both sides the car corners better now need a new set of tyres on monday so that will be the next job......
