Funny enough when I changed the breaks one of the pads was stuck in position meaning it wasen't working, we covered it in coper grease when we refitted everything.mjb wrote:Numbness could well be caused by a sticking piston...

Re: 406 Brakes?
when i brought my car to a mechanic after i changed the brakes finding they weren't as good i was initially told 'dont worry they only hold you back' but it was the fluid it was leaking out of the back

Re: 406 Brakes?
Went to my private road at 3 last night and did a 0-105mph run, slammed on and about 50mph the pedal hit the floor
Managed to slow down ok and stop, looked under the car and one of my break hoses was leaking. So ordered goodrich hoses and new brake fluid, should be here monday

Re: 406 Brakes?
Theres a pin hole in one of the break hoses, as the fluid heats up it thins and leaks from there and looses pressure.

Re: 406 Brakes?
Just a thought ,
Take out the sliding pins on the front and clean up & grease?
They do seize up over time. A quick wire wool and copper grease might help
If the rear discs are a bit stiff then a few goes with WD 40 and copper grease work wonders.
For drums just clean everyting up and re-adjust.
I've tried loads of different pads over the years and find Ferodo premier good....
But The local factors suggested I try a brand called Varga..@about a tenner!
Work great.

Re: 406 Brakes?
^^ i concur, this is prolly your problem, and when they heat up it may [possibly be freeing it off enough to squeeze out a little more, but when cold it can hardly move.mjb wrote:Numbness could well be caused by a sticking piston...

Re: 406 Brakes?
I imagine it's a sticking piston. The breaks work though, they work well. Just not happy with the pedal feel or the fact they don't seem to 'bite' hard. Would a little copper slip help?

Re: 406 Brakes?
vacuum hoses, vacuum pump, servo, sticking caliper.
sticking caliper would get my vote as that would could well free off when they warm up.

Re: 406 Brakes?
