Steel Wheel Bolts
Any suggestions on where to buy 8 used wheel bolts for steel wheels, 2004 2.0HDI 110 estate?
I'm switching from alloys to steels, had hoped to get the bolts cheap on ebay but all I can find is new ones for £4.44 each, hadn't budgeted for that!
I assume I need 52mm ones, e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-406- ... 1821795136
Thanks

Re: Steel Wheel Bolts
Don't buy used wheel bolts , new ones can be had cheap enough.

I wish I only had to pay £4 odd for wheel bolts, should try getting some for my 924 £35+ each if you can find them.

Re: Steel Wheel Bolts
You do know you can use your alloy wheel bolts on steelies don't you
That's why they have the cone section, so you can use them with your steel spare.
Anyhow if you want to replace the bolts, this sellers is very good item no 171881177168.
Has lot's of different lengths available, just search his listings for 16 M12 x 1.25 bolts
They start at £11.99 & go up to £22.00 for the sizes that should cover you.
If your unsure try one of your alloy ones in your new steelies, you need 22mm out the back of the wheel
Just had another look item no 181591486222
Should do you nicely, 24mm of thread so should be 21mm out back of your wheel £11.99 posted
But please check before you by, these dimensions are from memory
If you don't know how to search for a item no, just click on advanced search & type in the no

Re: Steel Wheel Bolts
I've been using the bolts from the Picasso's alloys on replacement steelies for about 3 years now - I don't even check them for tightness anymore as they have never shook loose...
The steelies are from a 406, I bought them as they had brand new tyres and the missus kept gently* brushing* kerbs with the alloys

Re: Steel Wheel Bolts
What's the deal with these bolts that have a 'loose' cone/taper bit?
I had to fit the spare steel wheel to our Twingo at the weekend and there were 4 x spare bolts included with the jack etc but they were just straight bolts without the 'cone' bit, I used these anyway.

Re: Steel Wheel Bolts
Thanks all, what a great forum, much appreciated. I didn't realise I could use alloy bolts on steels, great tip! I've ordered the set suggested by caprixpack and will use alloy bolts in the meantime. Thanks again!
Re: Steel Wheel Bolts
A brief update - it turns out you shouldn't use the alloy bolts on steels long-term. They have a smaller taper, OK for short-term use of the steel spare, but longer term I've had one wheel come loose already, and the MOT man just pulled me up on it, and pointed out they were causing wear of the tapers on the wheels...

Re: Steel Wheel Bolts
Conversely... I meant to post on this thread but it looked like it had been resolved. I ran steel wheels on my winter tyres using alloy wheel bolts, the taper is different, however I covered many thousands of kilometers with them and these were even on the car when I drove it to the UK. I was warned the wrong taper would mean they'd come loose but they never did so I gave up checking them after the first couple of winters.
