406 steering not centralising

Post by Johnjo »

The steering on my 04 406 hdi has stopped self centralising after being turned. With car on lift i disconnected both track rod ends both front wheels pivot to and fro with no resistance. A s/hand steering rack was fitted but did not cure the problem all knuckle joints were checked and found to be free. A part from this car car drives and steers well. Can any 1 shed some light on this please Best Regards Johnjo

So the only bit you haven't eliminated is the steering column? Maybe the UJ, we've had one or two on here that have gone stiff, usually a hard spot when the wheel's turned but I can imagine that as not wanting to centralise. Other than that, maybe the steering geometry's goosed :?
