handbrake
how do you adjust the handbrake on a 406 estate glx 1998.....i understand that the handrakes are not the best on peugeots any help would be great thanx

I agree, rubbish handbrake on 406's!

I just put my Pug through the MOT (or local equivalent
), my back wasn't up to the job so I had the mechanic waive his hands at the handbrake. Normally I have the disks off and scuff the insides up with a bit of course emery paper but, after adjusting them, he reckoned they were good enough. They were but I wouldn't like to park it on a hill. Talking to the mechanic he said he had a similar problem on one of the ambulances, what he did in the end was have the shoes relined with a different compound, so I was thinking of having this done to mine. It'll have to wait until my wallet recovers from the revolting rav of course...

All you need to do is make sure the expander mechanism is free moving and well lubricated, and then the shoes are adjusted accordingly
