Wobbly bits

Post by ianjoh »

Hello all
Had this problem for well over a year now but it is now been getting worse and more annoying.
Whilst accelerating the whole of the car shakes from the front end, the harder you nail it the worse it gets. The steering wheel dosn't shake, just the body. I initially thought it was the front tyres distorting under load but a front to rear tyre swop has not made any difference.
I usually leave unknown shakes and rattles until they become obvious but this one now can wobbles your bits (or t1ts !)

Almost certainly an engine mount if the engine's running well. Chances are it's the top mount (pear-shaped lump of rubber screwed into the body next to the coolant tank) - known to give up the ghost on torquier engines and isn't easy to diagnose without a night-vision camera mounted under your bonnet while driving. Only about £15 and a 15 minute job to replace, unlike the bottom mount which is a royal pain in the backside
