<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Getting strange this now -had the car in for its mot today,
tester rang me 3 hours later (sorry Your car as failed Wouid you like us to do the work or take it else where ?)

nsf head light not working ?
they want £120 incl the mot fee to fix the lights
itook it home and got the lights working cost of 50p each a bulb,
went back to the mot tester n told him it was just the bulbs he then piped out er thats not the problem its the osf headlight as no pattern?

so ithink hes pulling a fast one !
but strangley there is deffo summat wrong with the rear of the car the slightest pot hole and the cars all over the place,

Another rip off garage to add to the collection
Try another MOT station?
The back suspension has some adjustment (camber?), then again something might be bent. Perhaps you could try getting the tracking checked on all 4 wheels

Re: Anoying rattle on the front end
I was going to suggest 4 wheel alignment, but make sure nothing needs replacing first, which seeing as though they found nothing wrong with it at the MOT is a likelihood.
Another quick thing to check would be to swap the front and rear tyres round and see what happens. Rear anti-roll bar bushes are another possibility along with the rear droplinks. Possibly also the top links, and finally what are your shockers like?

Re: Anoying rattle on the front end
car as now passed its mot
been to see a tyre fitter he rekons the rear tyres that are on it are rubbish> but theres plenty of tread left on them,
imight as well grab some wide alloys now then spend £90 on tyres to put on the steel rims,
anyone know where ican get some pug alloys from ?

Re: Anoying rattle on the front end
Just on the beam settings...
I had an MOT advisory on my beam aims.
The tester told me that he'd seen a few with the same problem.
Solution was to remove the bulb and stick ones finger into the headlamp and slowly 'lift'
upwards the metal hood that the bulb sits near. Apparently they get hot (nighttime taxi prob)
and slowly drop towards the bulb...only by a small amount though.
Guess what he was correct!
I did what he said and restored my beam patterns from two blobs to a
proper wide spread!

I had a simular one, where I managed to accidentally move the cap while changing a bulb - made a really strange beam pattern!
