south wales to northumbeland is sum miles
If car was in working order I'd have found the money somewhere and driven it back.
I'm tempted to offer him for it in the condition it's in and stick my 1.9TD in it, BUT got no room to do it and can't get it back from Northumbeland unless I get the train up and from the AA "My timing belts just snapped"

Not yet, still stuck across the garage, but hoping to rectify that shortly.

Tempted to fix, whack a Bosch pump on it and run it on veg oil at 48p per litre. Should cut my running bills dramatically, but will need to decide once I've seen how much damage there is to the engine.

Could pick up an XUD9 for £150 with a bosch pump. Just drop it in and give it a good tune?

ok ive been hearing about this for a long time, whats the difference in the lucas and bosch pump. Are some cars fitted with each type, does this apply to the xud. Is the bosch better.

Would prefer to keep it 2.1 really, but put the Bosch pump on and then up the fuelling and boost and see what sort of power I can get. Should be able to get 150bhp easily I would have thought. Run it on veg oil too for maximum cheapness and mainly to stick one's finger up at Mr Chancellor and his bloody taxes. :cheesy:

I didn't hear any sort of bang or noises when the belt went, so fingers crossed it hasn't caused too much damage. Also, I've rearranged my finances and can afford to keep the 406 and the new car. I should also be able to afford to actually slowly fix the 406 and do the Bosch pump swap before getting it back on the road.

Still haven't decided what to do yet, and once I get the 306 on the road, the 406 back here and time to assess the damage I should be able to make an informed decision.

Already got my 309 for that! It'd just be cheap to run if I could veg oil it, and be worth it for the work run.

Got a moonstone blue 306 HDi estate as a temporary runabout. Should be cheap enough to run about in for the time being. I've just checked the real MPG on the missus 306 HDi estate (we've now got a red and blue one) and it's returning just shy of 50mpg, which when you consider we live in the middle of the Pennine's is pretty good. Anyway, I've just had the new one delivered about 2 hours ago. The same guy should be able to collect the 406 at the weekend as long as we can get to it, i.e. the compounds not locked. He was telling me about the Lamborghini's and Ferrari's he's had on the trailer, so the ride height on the 406 should cause him no problem.

Need to get the drivers side hub off and the bearing swapped out on the new one ASAP, and there's a few other little bits to tidy up, and then it should be pretty much spot on. Will run around in it for a while, and if it's better than the missus car, she'll keep the new one, we'll sell hers and either fix the 406 and run it on veg oil, or sell both and get something a bit more practical for round here.
