my pride and joy estate GLX HDi 90

Post by arrhenius »

morning guys and gals! happy Friday to y'all

this is my pug, love it to bits, purchased 1.5 years ago for £140 as it was rotting on driveway,
got MOT after changing indicator lightbulbs, drove to Poland and back, no issues and mpg better than any other car i had.

with poor-ish bodywork, i am not sure if i want to go towards mint view or just rat/slam/patina..
future will show.
perfect family car to start with, putting a kayak on roof tomorrow and driving to nearest water

nice to be here and join the club!
best wishes

Matt

Hi Matt & welcome aboard. 8)

406's are better than most people realise and you can't argue at that price.

Enjoy.

Hi there Matt! :cheesy:

Is that a crap respray then? It just looks dirty from here. Looks fairly straight otherwise, perhaps a bit rounded off like a pebble on a beach. It's up to you what you do with it, it'll never be worth much sadly so perhaps not worth pouring cash into, just enough to keep 'er going like.

Hi Matt.

You've done alright there, worth every penny :cheesy:

Long distance cruising is a breeze in one of these, and as fresh as a daisy when you get there..!

There was a time when pretty much every 406 was worth £140 but times have changed.

Last year I bought a 53 plate executive with a shady owner history and more than a few issues, but it had a years ticket and was £300 - most faults are easily remedied by looking on the knowledge base here.

Don't chuck much money at yours, just enjoy it, use it and simply keep on top of the potential niggles that you'll get with any 20 year old car - otherwise they could mount up and cause a headache come mot time.
2003 2.2hdi estate - mine
1998 Volvo 940 auto estate - also mine
2019 Citroen C3 something - the wife's
PP2000 user, can help with faults / diagnostics in the Bournemouth area.

Welcome Matt :D

Whilst I agree with some of the comments, I come at it from a different angle

If you get to know your car & like it, why not spend the money to keep it right ?

Ginger for example, sold on or scrapped (I can't quite remember :cheesy: )
A lovely 2.2Hdi executive estate because it had clutch issue's, they all will at some point

I bought my 2.0 Hdi Rapier 2002 in 2013, it was a one owner car, 68k for £1300
I've spent more than double that in the following eight years & 70k but you do the maths
If I was to scrap it, it's cost me less than 6k for 70k & eight years :cheesy:

Enjoy.
2002 110 HDi estate, Rapier in monaco blue! ( found quite a bit more power :cheesy: ) SOLD I've sorted the airbag light :cheesy:
1998 3.0 V6 SE coupe in Diablo Red ( my baby ) sold
2006 206 1.4 16v sport in Aegean blue ( wife's shopping trolley  )

2006 BMW e61 535d m-sport :supafrisk: run's for cover

As I have often stated I reckon that the 406 is the best car that Peugeot have made have made. I ran two for 10 years, one for me one for the wife. Probably the most reliable cars I have ever had and not to difficult to work on. Good ride and road holding and amazing value for money, I generally paid less than £500 for my diesel estates. If they were still plentiful I would likely still be running them. Although I preferred the 110 hp.
