The Focusaurus :) ... May Contains traces of Ford!
Re: The Focusaurus :) ... May Contains traces of Ford!
Thats for the info mate, really appreciate that
I did look into it a bit on the Escort engine front as the scrapyards are full of them with still good engines as they've outlived the car, my brother in law suggested aswell it and there is a couple of people on FFOC that have done it but as you say its alot more involved due to engine mount positioning etc
I'm going to try and catch my mate today and ask him if he's spoke to his mate about the 1.6 blacktop he's got, its out of a Zetec S Fiesta so should just drop straight in
I went back around the garage this morning to ask if they could drop the sump and change the shells, they said they wouldint do it as apparently you cant get them back together and gave me 2 options, scrap it or put another lump in

Right the engines in the Escort and MK2 Mondeos are different. There 1.6 Zetecs.
What you want is a Sigma (Zetec S/Zetec SE) engine.
The 1.6 Zetec won't just drop in.
What you idealy want is a 1.6 Zetec SE Blacktop.
While it's out change all the belts, pullys and tensioners.
The blacktop has a TMAP sensor in the inlet manifold. (Total Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor).
The Silvertop has a MAF.
You can either stick your inlet manifold from yoru silvertop on the blacktop or you can just leave the sensor there unplugged.
other than that, straight swap

Thats awesome mate, cheers, so really the later engine, apart from 1 thing is a straightforward swap
just waiting to hear from my mate who's asking about a blacktop for me, if not there's this

Re: The Focusaurus :) ... May Contains traces of Ford!
Anywho back on track with some updates.
Went to castle combe in July and did a load of work before the show...
I have squeely brakes so decided to do something about them.
I didn't want to go buy a 3/8ths 7mm Allen key socket so I made one. I retrieved my man card and took an angle grinder to a 7mm allen key and stuck it in a 3/8th 7mm socket
Removed the caliper, disc and brake pads...
Sanded down the edges of the disc and painted them gold, sanded down the caliper and give them a fresh lick of paint too.
While the paint was drying I cleaned the alloys
Before...
After...
And of course being britan just as I started to reassemble the N/S brakes the heavens opened
And finished
Plan for this week is to remove the rear wheels, sand and paint the rear drums, clean the alloys. Then clean the outside, inside and fit my phone holder for the drive to gaydon

Nothing too strenuous.
Firstly I wanted to sort out the wiring behind the dash and remove the stalk adaptor so I can get a refund (it's faulty).
Before...
Main loom before...
Trimmed down the loom and tidy'd it up
Main loom after...
And all the wiring back in place...
Also been having issues with the electric windows. It's come apparent that both door looms have been butchered. I repaired the drivers side the other day. And today fixed the passengers side...
Before...
After...
Getting there slowly
And then I had a problem with the engine and an oil leak...30th June 2011 wrote:Wanted to get a few things done today. But next doors house crashed into my car and then drove off...
So spent an hour tidying that up...
Then changed my oil and coolant, never thought about sticking the front end in the garage to do this until today!
Saves me getting wet in the rain
Oh and does anyone know if this is legal?
And now it's time to do some work for Gaydon28th July 2011 wrote:Well I've had a few issues with the car...
Driving to Cardiff the other day I started to realise I was feeling abit high and there was abit of smoke comming from the back of the car. Pulled into the services and the rocker cover gasket failed and was dribling oil all over the exhaust manifold
Also become more and more aware I had abit of an inlet/vacuum leak...
After removing the pipe it come apparent it was very bad
1x New pipe
That pipe was replaced and now the cars running a million times better.
Replaced the rocker cover gasket, found the trough where the spark plugs go full of water like always
And also patched up where the resonator goes to try quieten my car down...
I love playing with fiberglass
Cars runnign a million times better, braking better, has more power low down, quieter etc etc

Re: The Focusaurus :) ... May Contains traces of Ford!
great work you did there, is that the sump you fixed with fibre glass?
i suppose its all them pipes getting old that causes the oily crap round the engine bay, ill need to check them on my car.

I hope it's not the sump, otherwise I been doing something very wrong indeed
It's the bottom of the airbox. On 1.8/2.0 Models theres a resonator to quieten the induction noise down. On the smaller engines it's left open to suck hot air from the engine bay and drone on the motorway.

it is a bit odd aint it?
but your tax disk, it looks like they didnt write or print the car details on, im sure the barcode has the cars details registered in the system, the post office will probably write them on if you take it back, but since they write it on with a bic pen in theory its possible to fix yourself.
