Best way to put filler on is too use them Top up cards for phones,
if you get it on smooth it takes less sanding,

have you used Fiberglass under neath the filler ?

you shouid of used something called filler gaps its like mesh very thin the filler grabs to it so it all keys in,
when you use card board it makes the job harder as the card board starts to heat up it starts breaking up,

fibre glass is easier to use than filler ithink as you can build it up in Layers with less mess,

I would imagine getting a second grille, and chopping that and using that to fill the hole would give a nicer finish

I was just going by the guide, ive never used fibre glass before so this is a learning curve. I will look into it though as i got the bumper to do next and i want that to be perfect.

That is a good point actually, the grilles are cheap in the scrappy. I will investigate this ha

i honestly think the front badge looks really good.

i certainly wouldnt do all this work just to remove it.

ahh good to see the old 'how to' being of use. Bare in mind that was only my second time doing it and I was learning too. Il be doing another one soon, and will probably do things a little different, so will update the how to maybe.

My best bit of advice would be to spend loads of time on the filling and sanding to get it as smooth as possible and the correct shape. Second time round I spend atleast 10hrs just getting the little line/recess on the bumper part to look factory finish.

I tryed cutting up an old grill to fill the space, but the problem I found was it sits out too far and was straight across rather than a curve. With the fiberglass I could set it back in the gap a few mm to allow space for the fillers to go on top and leave the surface flush...

Well its obviously a marmite thing to de-badge it but i currently have a spare bumper in my attic and the original grille on the car so if it looks awful i can easily swap them over.

Good news. Im ordering lowering springs either tonight or tommorow due to a nice bursary from my university finally coming through (after a lot of bureaucracy). I plan to drop it 40mm as i still want it drive able with people in the car.

Next week i plan to
1) Under seal the rear of the car
2) Another thorough clean
3) Finish the smoothing
4) De-rust under the bonnet and various points in the engine as well
