hi
i bought a second hand 406 1.9td couple of months ago and it was running fine. untill i washed it!
now everytime i go over 30 no matter how bad the weather is i get a high pitched whislte inside the cab.
its driving me mad. all of the door seals apear to be ok. i have even got some sealent and gone around the windshield and windbreakers incase they were loose.
ive tried opening and closing all the windows/sunroof whilst driving and even closing them slowly when stopped to make sre they sit snugly in the seal.
it sounds to me like it is coming in the passenger footwell soemwhere or perhaps from the engine bay but i cant see anything loose or missing. i know sounds can be deceptive.
anyone else had this problem?
many thanks in advance for your help.

allen

Woops, I forgot about this one. I was thinking is anything damaged on the car? Grille, bumper, undertray etc? Are all your doors lined up straight? There's a Mickey Mouse door mirror on my D8 that whistled until I modified the pading behind it.

I know, it's always windy at Beachy Head whenever I've been there, I walked along a ways on crutches once wondering where the whistling noises were coming from - "It's those two flutes you're carrying!" said my bro. Perhaps you could take your car there and see if you can recreate the noise while it's stationary. And if you can't you just push the damn thing off

I'll tell you what whistles on mine, the bluddy genuwhine roof bars :x

Hi,
My experience of the dreaded whistles
I own two 1.9 td's. One an early 96 (200k)and an 'upgraded' 98 (400k), the latter having better spec such as ABS and aircon etc and is a sod to work on compared to the earlier model with all the access problems
Also it has electric mirrors which I swopped onto the N reg to get thru an MOT quickly when one was targeted by vandals.
Ok, when doing 50 mph and the sunroof was open.....the drivers mirror howled like hen night on trampagne (cider!) I gave up trying to work this out. When closed it didnt.
But when swopped back to the original spec mirrors it didnt! However there is play in the upper drivers door hinge so when you go over 70mph in windy weather or low atmospheric pressure weather conditions, the interior's higher air pressure forces the door ever so slightly open and caused the most annoying wind noise even though the door doesnt look like its moved off the seal and is still rain proof.
I've learned to live with this or squeeze the door top frame back towards the car with my hand.

hahaha I have the same problem and the same solution as banger on my 2.1 td ... hold the top of the door closed. It's so f*!*ing annoying though
