how far to lower?

ok i have an sri 2l turbo p plate,
its the bestest car ive ever had..
with 17" alloys with 205/40 tyres,
its a phase one with a phase two kit, a wave kit i believe, from germany...
the front bumper is lower than the rear.
see my pics..
how low can i go?
i dont want to hit any speed bumps, do they have a maximum height?
deffinately want to lower and stiffen but like i say, the speed bumps worry me and most are unavoidable..
ive already caught the front bumper on a couple of kerbs, dont ask how...

how much you got to spend

im yet to find anywhere that does springs for the 406 that lowers by anymore than 40mm, if you want lower than this then you need a coilover conversion, which you can get for the 406 for under £600, which is quite reasonable

There are several kits that will do 60/60 or 60/40.

I don't suggest 60mm because standard roads are just not built for that. 60mm is really more for race tracks

Ecosse do a set of 60's and the shortened bodied dampers to go with them

Your tyres are the wrong profile too

You want 215/40

thats not wrong niz, 215 is the width of the tyre, 40 is the percentage of the width = the profile,
so there is only 4 mm difference in the height of the profile

I promise you that the 205's are wrong for the 406, when I had my first set of alloys they came with 205/40's and they were no good... didn't last very long at all and the ride was hard and horrid... needless to say that every set I have had since, have been 215/40's there is a considerable difference in the thickness of tyre, between the rim and the outer rolling circumference.

but steering will feel far more responsive with the 205's even though you have 10mm less tread on the road, there will be less 'squash' effect as you have a narrower profile, so you will obviously have a harsher ride, but i think thats an acceptable trade off

OK I will put it in terms of cornering ability...... with the 205's I had to buy two new front wheels because at high speed cornering the rims hit the deck and get damaged..... so I opted for the 215's as this is what the tyre specialists advised and he got this figure from Peugeot as thats the profile they put on their optional 17" rims !

try putting some air in your tyres

if it was me i would go with 225/50/ZR17s on a 406, goodyear eagle F1's to be most specific

the ones i wrote were the ones i ordered,
after writing this i checked my wheels and realised i didnet have what i ordered,
i have 215/45,
so i went back to the shop, they contacted wolfrace who said they had to be that size,
cos of the speedo ect,
i was a bit suspicious so asked a mate who's totaly good at this stuff,
he said they were right,

i was pretty surprised,
still its true, you really do learn something everyday..

They lied to you.... the 215/45's are what you should have on your car...
