Question about bumper moulding

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

Question about bumper moulding

Post by Mugendrimon »

Hello everyone,

I've recently got my hands on a 1998 2.0L 16V saloon (automatic) which I'd like to restore.
One of the things in need of replacing is the front bumper moulding, which originally had a chrome strip on it.

I've looked far and wide, but only managed to find replacements without the chrome strip, with that one being reserved for models made from 1999-.
So my question is, can the front bumper moulding for D9 be used on D8?
For future reference, since I'm only able to find mouldings with chrome for restyling, I'd also love any information on that regarding side strips and rear bumper mouldings.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I have not been able to get a conclusive answer for about two months now, no matter where I looked or whom I asked.

Any help given would be much appreciated!

Hi 😁

As far as I know the plain black molding is for D8 models, except the executive and possibly the sportier ones - and all the later D9's had the chrome strip.

Are you wanting to insert the chrome strip from a later car into the bumper of your earlier car?

I've looked at pictures of both, and while the bumpers have some obvious differences, the black edging looks like it has the same dimensions

So, in a nutshell, I don't actually know for sure 🙄

Hello,

I'm looking to replace both moldings on the front bumper, but replace them with the chrome strip ones, since those are the ones the car originally had.

Issue is, all I ever find for D8 are those plain black ones. Which is why I'm wondering if I could get the ones for D9, since molding with the chrome strip is pretty easy to find for models made from 1999 onwards.

Just looking at pictures online, I'd say they are identical to the ones I have, but I'd like to be sure I'm not spending money on parts I won't be able to use.

To add to the confusion, some resellers will say it's for all models 1995-2004, and others that it's only for 1999-, and they'll have the same part number.

I have a D9, so I'm happy to take measurements etc for peace of mind.

My old chrome strips were well past their best, so I simply* stuck some 10mm and 12mm coloured stripes over the top 👍

That would be wonderful, thank you!

Those same stripes are what the previous owner opted for, since he wasn't able to find original parts either.
