Will D8 driver's door mirror fit and work on D9 car?

Apologies if this has been covered before or if it's the wrong topic section:
My 2002 D9 coupe recently got a clout on the driver's door mirror, snapping the plastic swivel section. It still seems to work electrically.
I've sourced a replacement, but though the connecting block looks the same it has 13 wires versus 11 on my D9. Having removed mirror glasses on both I see that the motor on mine is dated 2001, but on the one I've bought it's 1998, so I suspect this one is from a D8. Also, the innards of mine have an extra plastic moulding which is absent in the replacement.
So .... my question is; will the D8 mirror plug in and work with no issues? Failing that, is it possible to transplant all the electrics and undamaged parts from the D9 to the D8 shell?
Also, is there any knack to re-connecting the mirror? I struggled but finally succeeded in removing the old one, but have failed totally to connect either since.
