going to have a go at welding the sills !

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

Gasless is a pain in the arse as it starts much worse than gasless and you'll have to do more cleanup, TIG is a waste of time unless you cut it back to completely perfectly clean metal and get your repair seamless - and you have it indoors otherwise the wind is a nightmare.
Stick welder? Forget it on car bodywork. It can be done, yes, but it always ends up a hell of a mess to sort out.

Beware that slapping a patch over the top usually just means the rest of it will rust even faster as you've created a moisture trap. So if you're keeping the car, worth doing it right the first time.
I did say all the above, in other words Phillip :arrowu: read though all the posts

There does come a point where its just not worth it to keep throwing money at it. It was the same with my calibra, mechanically it was perfect but bodywise it was a nightmare. I changed both front wings the tailgate a door one of the sills drivers side floor pan, it was just one thing after another. Took it for its next mot and the tester called me over and stuck his finger through the passengers side floor in a few places, by this time one of the front wings had started going again. As much as I loved it, I had to let it go i just couldn't afford to keep replacing metal.

Thanks for your input guys
If it goes through the MOT without to much trouble will keep for a few more years as long as the clutch 175k holds out, apart from the sills car is still in good nick
Hope it does not need to many patches on the sills ???

That is indeed a bit of a result, the rust can't be near enough to anything structural (although I'd have a thought the whole sill is structural... :? )

:cheesy: result

I did say earlier on in this post that the reg's changed a few years back, you can have no outer sills
& it'll still pass as long as it's more than 150mm from a suspension mounting point
