can anybody tell me how to fit front corner splitters? if i use my initiative i'll probably make a mess

Splitters are nowt [s]but pretentious crap[/s] but cheap tack that reduce the look of the 406's beauty IMO. Just gives you something to smack off kerbs and speed bumps.

Blue, we know you hate modified cars, but please be a little more conservative with your responses. People who don't know you might take offence easily and that's not what you or the OC are about.. Cheers Niz406

personally i dont think you should put on the front splitters. as blue says they look like cheap tack.

if you want to fit a splitter to the front without it looking tacky but also retaining an original look. fit a renault laguna or a renault espace front splitter.

well being totally truthful they are the only splitter that i have seen that nearly suit every type of car. Because i was thinking of putting an espace one on mine lol

They suit the 406 so well... if you go into the Album there is a picture of an old members red 406 with one on.... Looks V.Nice !

Is that the car that is on the front page? Is there an article on this cos it looks so cool (it looks like it's made from rubber so wont get damaged on humps).

Hmmm, I've been toying with the idea of a plain black rubber strip about 2" wide. Not dissimilar to the standard one, but I'd mount it nearer the leading edge of the bumper instead of set back, and extend it all the way 'round to the wheel arches.

Your thoughts please.

I'm only thinking about it 'cos mines knackered (worn through in a couple of places ) and a couple of clips are also broken. I'd like a laguna splitter but I'd break that in about 10 mins on my local roads. At keast if it's a scrapyard / B&Q special I should be able to fix it pretty easily when I break it

i was thinking about fitting the lower front bumper spoiler off a 406 coupe on to my 406 D8.

I did know that the coupe splitter would fit a standard saloon front bumber??????????

OK, I cracked under the strain and got a Laguna splitter from my local scrappy....

looks good on the 406, what year/model of laguna is it from and is it an easy fit, or does it need some modification?

It's from a Mk 1 Laguna, I think the one I got it off was an "R" reg, but don't quote me.

The splitter's got lugs on it which pass trough slots in the Laguna bumper. My 6 has similar slots, but not in the same places . So I cut the lugs off the splitter to get it back far enough, it nestles nicely in the channel where the factory rubber strip usually lives. Then I lined the middle up perfectly and fixed it with a stainless steel self-tapper straight up into the underside of the bumper. Next I removed the screws that hold in the plastic panels at the ends of the bumper (you know, the panels you have to remove to reach the fog lights). Then measured and drilled holes in the lip of the splitter that would allow these screws to be refitted through the splitter. Secure with several more self tappers along the middle bit and Robert is your father's brother

It could really do with being about 2" longer (in the middle), that would improve the fit at the corners. But hey, beggars can't be choosers. 10 mins in a scrapyard and the princely sum of five earth pounds, I reckon that's a nice mod
