Plastic/chrome bumper trim

Post by PeterN »

Does anyone know if this is available and from where, or anything else I could use? I don't usually bother with such things but I have just bought another Hdi estate, very tidy car apart from that.

I'm struggling to see which is which but AFAIK the chrome comes with the plastic I'm afraid, not cheap either. Try something tacky from Halfraud's?

I was afraid that may be the case, I will have to try and get inventive. Thanks anyway.

I bought some shiny chrome like tape from eBay and it was shite - it just highlighted the bumpy surface under the chrome strip.

Which parts do you need to replace? Normally the tailgate strip is worse, but bumper corners are a a bugger to remove - I was thinking about using coloured tape instead as its quite thick and looks nice when done properly..

If it's an estate (come on, pictures STAT!) then the tailgate is the expensive one :(

Its mostly the tailgate and front bumper. I will take some pictures when it stops raining!

As it doesn't look as though its going to stop raining this week I nicked the photo's from Ebay:

You will notice the front seats are odd, even odder is that the passenger seat is electric as should be the driving seat but I hope to find a set of leather to replace them with.

The car has 11 months MOT and half a tank of diesel, everything works including the aircon and remote locking in fact it has two new keys. In the last couple of years it has had a new cambelt, clutch and DMF and most other things judging by the pile of paperwork with it.

It looks as though it has literally been 'Maintained regardless of cost' it also has a good set of tyres all round. Its also a 7 seater which I'm not bothered about. It drives like new as most of them do and it doesn't have a satnav so the LCD display is fine.

The most remarkable thing is that the handbrake works.

All this for the princely sum of £400.

Have a look on Amazon..they do roll's of chrome trim on there..
Only problem with it ..is its goes on and ' secured with '3m tape..so if used its best having a ' bead of ' sikaflex or similar..
The '3m tape is crap..

' nice car BTW..a change of ' interior and a steering wheel cover wouid make it look ..more fresh.

I thought it was a good price, I have looked at six or more all over the Westcountry and have decided they were rubbish in the first minute or so, I took to this one as soon as i saw it.

Is this stuff any good, its the right width?

Looks like nice trim, but you may need to remove the old chrome first to give a nice surface to stick to.

I think the door strips are 10mm, the bumpers and tailgate are 12mm - no idea why they are different sizes.

As its only my tailgate that is rubbish, I may invest in some red reflective stuff.

If I saw that 406 for £400 I would have snapped it up, as Lozz says its only a drivers seat and they are 2 a penny - or keep an eye out for a nice leather set ( Exec or SE trim, and get the black lower dash too 8) )

For the price of what 406 parts go for these days
I'd bin the seats..

A set of seats can be had for a 1 ner.
Or less..leather or Se ones..

It'd add £ 500 to the value of the car for sure..
