Still leaking

Followed FarmerPugs lovely video tutorial on unblocking the sunroof drains today.
I used strimmer cord as I couldn't find anything else long enough and suitable (Used the thickest cord I could buy)

Took the hose out of the bottom, put it outside the drivers door like he does too... Pushed the strimmer cord as far in as I could get it... Felt like it went 3/4rds of the way down before it got stuck... Anyway, hot water down the hose later to free the dirt... Water happily flows out of the hose i.e no blockage.

However, and unfortunately I am still getting drips inside the car. The roof lining, in the corner near the sun visor is absolutely drenched, if I pressed it, it was like a sponge!

So, drain sorted - leak still persists.

Next course of action boys?

Personally I would chop the funny bit of the end of the hose off,i cleared mine and it still leaks on occasions,i reckon the cross piece at the end of the hose goes brittle and it takes a lot of water to push past it and by that time it's backed up into the car,well that's my theory anyway and when I get a chance i'll be chopping mine off!

I must admit I think that's a stupid design... but I took that off and the water flowed out nicely but still, drip drip on the inside... water is coming from somewhere else... is it at all possible the other end of the drain is detachable? The only thing I can think of myself is that the rubber hose has a rip / tear, what ever up nearer the sunroof?

It's always a possibility that someone in the past may have shoved something sharp down the outlet hole from the sunroof to clear it and damaged the hose

Have you had a leaking sunroof and had to clear the drain?
I just wonder if your roof lining was wet in the corner, like a sponge?

Is it fairly easy to remove the hose all together to inspect it for holes, any idea?

Mine leaks from both sides from time to time,mostly when going round corners but it only seems to drip from the alarm sensors,up to now the carpet has stayed dry and the roof lining is also dry,whenever possible I always park the car nose up and my drive is very steep so there's no way the water could run uphill to the front drain hoses.

Ahhh - that'll be why you drive in not reverse in then... I had noticed that!

Must admit this chap said it only leaked while absolutely tipping down and only ever around corners but it seems much much worse than that....
Floor absolutely soaked, roof lining absolutely soaked like a sponge etc..

To be honest though even on level ground in heavy rain it's only a few drips now and again,thats why I've never bothered trying to find the cause.

Hi Sonia, my 306 sunroof drains are fine but water pours in still. I read on a 306 forum that the rivets that hold things in place near the rear of the sunroof can also let water through, although I haven't tested this theory yet.

Also, yes the tube can come away from the point where it joins the sunroof - resulting in cascades, literally cascades of water coming straight into the car. Turns out some idiot pushed a coat hanger through the drainage tube too hard and pushed the tube off the outlet completely. Only discovered when said idiot poured a kettle full over the sunroof to test it had cleared, what a twat.

My 406 occasionally drips by the alarm sensor things but I have checked my drains and they are fine - I assume its only condensation or something as it is minimal drippings...

I messaged FP last night and he too said about the rivets letting water in!
Must admit I did the kettle thing yesterday and still thought I saw it leaking..

We've had drizzle all night and drizzle this morning, got in the car, roof lining, alarm sensor and A pillar metal all dry - so maybe, just maybe... it's sorted itself out? I've kept the trim off the pillar at the moment to keep an eye on things...........

The roof lining yesterday was literally like a sponge.........

When I pulled everything apart, there seemed to be a kink in the drainage pipe near
where it pushes onto th outlet from the sunroof.

I sorted that. Still leaked.

I checked where the aerial mounts onto the roof. Felt firmly fixed, and watertight.

Checked the top of the windscreen, outside.
There a little channel that runs the width of the screen. Behind that, flush against the body is a rubber lip.
That looked suspicious to me, so I bought some 'flowable silicon' screen sealer.
Ran a flat screwdriver along the length of the lip, with some kitchen towel inserted right behind it...
to clean out the gunge.
Then repeated the exercise, with the nozzle of the screen sealer inserted behind the screwdriver.

No more leaks, so far.

That is really helpful to know... Did you find it wet at the top and just dripping down inside? Top corner of the roof lining soaked?
I will definitely be trying what you've suggested, thanks so much!

Must admit just took the car out again and did a corner with some speed and drip drip drip drip... but I felt the roof lining - still dry...... Confusing!
