The paint code is the 4 letters near the bottom, KWMC on mine. KWM is the colour ( Monaco Blue ) and the C is the paint finish i.e metallic or pearlescent.
Found this out on Google when looking for paint to colour code my walnut trim, and respray the mirror backs.

Near the bottom is the build code again (0989189), the first five numbers are the RPO and the last two are the plant code. The paint code is that EXLD** which isn't on that link you posted but as far as I remember is Obsidian black metallic and perlescent (that's the two * s)

I am glad you posted this picture because:

1) I thought I was going insane with not finding the paint code near the build code.
2) I thought I was also going mad that said website didn't have my paint code, which I know is 'China Blue'
3) It was really pissing me off

Thanks for this post Steve!

So the stuff about the two bumholes is balls then? I'm not sure where I read that, maybe off the colour chart in the paint shop here :?

Pretty sure its fact..!!

I went to a local paint supplier to get touched up ( ooer ) and they could only find KMW, not KMWC. Its a match, badly sprayed on by me though.

Not mine it seems
You are using this built code calculator and service box with VIN to identify the information yeah?

Incredibly weird.... I'm not even sure who had the car first... I just know this chap had it a long time and personally did either 100k or 150k I can't remember now

You can work it out manually if you like - build code 5898 corresponds to 1st January 1993. Increases by one for each day :)

So the Coupe's build code is 9376, making it 3479 days after 01/01/93, meaning my Coupe was built on 12/07/02

It seems my car was made on Friday, September 12, 2003. The warranty start date was March 23, 2004.

Thats over 6 months between when it was made to when it was sold....

It seems the blue paint, tan leather with awful walnut trim wasn't to everyone's taste or price tag - no wonder it ended up as a taxi.....

Miss Pug too... I had heard if it was registered in 2000 (the year it was made) then it would of probably had a cheaper tax band?
Everyone has walnut trim, unless you're a rapier and the blue paint is I think the best colour for these 406's, but I agree... the tan leather isn't a hit with me
