fog light removal

Post by grasmere59 »

I've just bought a pair of new fog lights for my 2003 hdi and was wondering how difficult they are to change? I only need to change the waterlogged one but as i've got a pair i might aswell change both.

i had water logged fogs on my d8 few weeks ago. i decided to seal them myself rather than buy a new pair. i used tigerseal

anyway to remove them you need some ground clearence. remove the black covers in the corners of the bumper (these are directly under the fogs)

access here the bolt to remove them. there is a "L" shape bracket on the bottom of the fogs . undo this and they should drop off.

(ang on thats for D8 but im sure it will be very similar for the D9) 8)

You have to jack/raise the side of the car for clearance,
remove undertray front part if you have one,

and iirc theres 3 screws one at the top behind fog light and 2 on the bottom of it,
fairly easy job on the d9, if you can get the car raised up a bit,

(Theres no brackets on the d9 fog lights, the fixing point are all intergrated with the light)

I have a problem with reaching the upper bolt when the fog light is in place. Does anyone has any suggestions for mounting the fog lights on my D9 without removing the bumper? :(

I jacked the car up today to get underneath to just have a look about and try and fix the n/s headlight washer, while it was up i thought i would change the foglamps for the new ones i have, what a pain in the backside to do.In the end the new ones went back on without the top mounting screw(lost one screw completely behind the bumper somewhere) as without taking the bumper off it seems nigh on impossible to do,they seem stable enough as is so it'll have to wait till another day when i can muster up the enthusiasm to take the bumper off.
