Fuel flap release spring broken - Modification?...

Post by dukey406 »

I read a topic on here where someone had fitted a release spring to the fuel flap as the factory fit
one had broken.
Can anyone give details of the size spring and perhaps a picture, It's no joke at the pumps when the bloody thing won't
open!!....

Cheers.

There are tons of different solutions for this over on the coupe forum, but I tried several that just didn't seem to work.

Most people use the spring out of a clothes peg wedged under one of the screws:

I wanted to try to keep my car looking as factory as possible though, so I managed to push the hinge pin through the centre of the spring & it still works fine today.

Thanks, the wife was a bit gobsmacked when I took an interest in her clothes pegs lol.
I'll have a go at that when it stops raining :)

Mine has been broken for 4 years. Read the fix with clothes peg spring and did it in 5 minutes - perfect no more pushing a duster under the lever while I open the flap.

Thanks to whoever came up with the fix.

Adding to this thread again! I checked mine again and the flap is now loose, the top hinge of the flap has snapped off! I can't find any matching ones on ebay so will have to look in a scrappy. Are they eay to remove/refit etc?

Not too sure about totally removing, but I had to knock the hinge pin up a fair way to be able to do this:
