Hi guys im new to forum and Peugeot

Post by roxyskinflint »

Howdy guys thought id pop on here and say hi,

Very new to peugeot, Bought my car on 18th sept

Bought a 2001 Y reg 406 2.2 Petrol SRI estate, really impressed, drive is smooth and car is really comfortable

Car was a bargain as it had really low miles 57K for an 8 year old car i thought was good,

Interior had some dried on white paint in parts on driver and passanger door and seat and quite a large mark on the rear passenger seats.

However me and the wife spent a couple of hours on saturday cleaning it all out, and with a cheap ALDi copy of those JML Doktor Power cleaning pads we removed all of the paint with no trace!! :cheesy:

Only issue now is the Clarion CD player wont play CDs it reads the disc and tell me how many tracks but plays with a lot of interference and really juddery, and it cant be the 8 CD's i tried,

So now im browsing the forum for info and advice, so if anyone reads this and knows of some quick links on threads that would be helpfull that would be great, Ill still try and seach myself though!!

so heres what i need info on

Replaceing the head unit with an aftermarkeone,so what connectors will i need (want to keep the steering controls)

Replace the Front Door speakers and and rear ones so some advice on getting to them would be great, Also the ones in the dash maybe but dont really want to faff on taking the dash out

Also display keeps flashing up Break Fluid Low however ive checked the level which is fine and it doesnt have a leak???? strange

Welcome on in mate! :D
The low brake fluid light is a fairly common one; it's caused by the handbrake switch going intermittent.

Hello fella!

I don't know about the CD player, they don't normally play up really.

The handbrake switch just needs a good old workout up and down loads of times quite fast (make sure no-one's watching  ) the micro-switch gets a bit sticky and flags the brake fluid fault. Mine always cleared up for months after a good workout  you can replace the switch cheaply but it's a bit of a faff getting to it.

The 2.2's always seem to have low mileage cos I think they've avoided the fleet users early on.

First thing I'd try on the CD player would be a lense cleaning disc. For a tenner or so it's got to be worth a shot.

You need 2 seperate units to control an aftermarket CD player, a headunit specific one and a car compatable one. The 2 will plug into each other in the loom so no more connectors are usually needed. After market speakers are 6.5" up front (be careful on depths of speakers) and the rears take 6x9's assuming the D9's use the same rear speakers as D8's. Speaker preference is a personal taste. I prefer my music bassier than most and with out the very top end highs so my suggestion would be to go to somewhere like Halfords and use their test wall to listen to the different speakers to find which ones you like and then go from there.

I agree with HimBigChief, as i had skipping problems with my cd player, i also have the 6-disc shuttle in the boot. And i used my fathers CD Lens cleaner disc, and it is in excellent working order now with no Skipping etc at all.

Oh by the way, Welcome to the 406oc. We'll all a good bunch of people here!!! 8)
