Newbie
Hi folks, just making myself known, been driving a 306 cab for the last year. But have now got a 406 s hdi estate. Loving the car. Loving the space, it has a few issues which I will work my way through. But I feel I'm going to have issues fixing the MFD. Which is a type c, has anyone tried to fix the display due to lines on screen? I know you need ACF, however. Does anyone know if there is a company or person, who can refurbish them?
Many thanks
Many thanks

Re: Newbie
Hi, welcome to the club
The 406 is a great all rounder, but I guess you know that already.!
The type C is prone to failing, and several people have tried to fix it using various methods but so far nothing is intricate enough to do it....
If it bothers you, you can fit a Type B instead - its not as pretty but perfectly functional.
How's your handbrake

Re: Newbie
thanks guys....yeah the handbrake is a little hit or miss.....it holds....just.....but stick it under load and it doesn't hold the car...so I guess it needs adjusting...….A question on putting in the type b, can it be from any 406? because I have seen various type B for sale and every one of them has said "make sure the part number match". what does this mean?
many thanks

Re: Newbie
Means nothing, sellers are just covering themselves..
Try to find one from the same age car as it saves having to adjust the BSI if it's not the same..
Older cars have a wired stereo control stalk, newer cars are Can-bus - this can be altered with diagnostic equipment but easier to get one from the same era.
Handbrake is easy to adjust using the adjusters in the rear hubs, but Jasper5 did a proper guide on the knowledge base, on the home screen - much more thorough than a simple tweak.

Re: Newbie
Try to find one that shows it works okay, although it's only 3 little bulbs in the back of them if it's a bit dark...

Re: Newbie
Cool - any MFD from 2001 will be fine, older ones may need tweaking but worth it if it's cheap

got the type b display...works perfect...
Re: Newbie
Iv'e been running 406 Hdi estates for getting on for 10 years and I think they are the best car Peugeot ever made - with the exception of the handbrake. I haven't had one with a good handbrake yet, I think the linings are the problem, you need really soft ones but I don't know who makes them. The brake works well after you have been driving in the rain and left it parked up because the drums go rusty and increase the friction - but it doesn't last long.
Not many 406s left now, going to look at one today. Welcome to the forum by the way.
