Hey guys
I have just picked up a 2002 406 Coupe 2.2 HDI.
So far so good. need a few touch ups but mainly it needs a remap because its sooooo slow!
Is this a quiet forum nowadays?
Any advice on a remap?
Cheers Rob

Sounds nice, but we need more details and a pic or two is always welcome, (then we can be properly envious and try not to let it show).
It shouldn't be really slow, (but I guess it depends on what you're comparing it with).
Hope you enjoy the new car.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Oh and my previous car was an Alfa GT 1.9 JTD remapped to 172bhp/300lb (0-60 in 8 secs)
I guess the 406 is some 3 seconds slower 0-60?

About 10.5 in standard form - 136 bhp/ 235 lbft - the majority of 'our' cars are similar to your Alfa in terms of power & torque.RobMorris wrote:Oh and my previous car was an Alfa GT 1.9 JTD remapped to 172bhp/300lb (0-60 in 8 secs)

Most I've heard of for a 2.2 HDi with no mechanical changes was 215 bhp & about 320 lbft.

Re: New 406 Coupe from Essex
I am looking to map the car myself - around the 170bhp should be enough.
It doesnt help that it feels like im in a boat! I think some 30mm lowering springs need to be on order..

Don't forget, your car's shocks and springs are 13 years old now - they start feeling wallowy after a while.
I've just replaced mine, front and rear, with KYB K-Flex springs (basically copies of the originals; they're not lowering springs), but I went for gas-charged shocks rather than simple oil-filled ones (ended up with Monroe shocks on the front and Koni on the rear - don't ask). The car feels exactly right now.
... well it did, right up until the point where the radiator hose split open and I lost all my coolant ... but that's classed as "unusual". Car is in the garage again, waiting for a new hose.
