Hi all! new here and picking up my hdi estate this weekend!
Hello, as my title says and I'm new to Peugeots, been looking for a 406 estate for a while, was after a car with less than a 100k miles ideally and the one I'm getting has done 84 and fairly tidy, 1owner , full mot, hdi S. The dealer didn't have the service book but whilst looking at pics again on my phone noticed an original dealer sticker in the back window and as a long shot wondered if they'd have any service records! I rang them and they had s/h up to 44k done there! Result
I'm looking forward to reading posts on here, and crossing fingers my car gets me home OK Saturday! Anybody local to Peterborough recommend a good 406 mechanic?! Thanks for reading..

Hi & welcome aboard.
Sounds like a really nice example, as GM says, post some pics when you can. My money's on 'green with envy'.
Come to think about it, mine had 88k on it when I bought it two years ago.

Re: Hi all! new here and picking up my hdi estate this weeke
Hi guys, thanks for your welcoming replies! I doubt you'll be green with envy, hehe! Tbh it had the filthiest looking interior I've ever seen in my life, the valeting guys were taking the seats out at the time I went to view it! quite bizarre how I came to decide very quickly on buying it as I had an appointment to see it and while I was waiting for a sales guy to show me it after valeting another sales guy was showing someone else the car and he was then sat in it about to test drive it! I'd just travelled 2 hours to get there (with my 2 year old daughter in tow!) so asked a manager who told the guy I was first to see it and he got out of the car and stomped off very fed up!! So... Hopefully I made a good choice, it's samarkand blue I think oh and it had a peppa pig sticker on the passenger door so my little girl was happy too! I'll pop some pics on Sunday hopefully! Thx, brett

Nudging 134k now - I do 60 miles a day to work & back.
This is my second 406 estate, together they've served me brilliantly for the last 6 years / 130k miles.
(Another forum member still has my first one in the family at well over 200k miles).

Wow.. Good going! A lot I've seen for sale have very high mileage but look ok and seem to keep going!
Re: Hi all! new here and picking up my hdi estate this weeke
Yep, if you look after them they just keep going forever (ignore the EML )

Crikey Jon! That's a fair few miles nice one...Glad I'm not the only one that's photographed my speedos!
Was just reading elsewhere the 110 is preferable to the 90 engine (actually the reviewer was a whole lot more blunt than that with some swear words thrown in for good measure!) What are thoughts on that, any difference in reliability/fuel economy?
Thanks..

I only have any real experience of 2.2's, so can't give you a personal recommendation. Both have their supporters - there isn't a bad HDi. 90's are slightly less complex, lower geared and probably better suited to urban motoring. The 110 has an intercooler and electronic boost control and gets better mpg in government tests, to the extent that post 2001 cars are cheaper to tax.

Re: Hi all! new here and picking up my hdi estate this weeke
I can't offer any comparisons between the 90 and 110 either I'm afraid, both of mine are 2.2 HDis.
The EML was the throttle position sensor I think, but I've since cleared the fault and it hasn't come back, so who knows It's now at about 224,000 miles by the way

Hi & welcome,
Looking forward to seeing some pics. Samarkand is a lovely colour.
I ran a HDi 90 for 8 years. Took it from 84k (three years old) to 205k. It was rather slow, but it averaged 60mpg over that time. It was an excellent car.
