Soon to be 406 owner...

Post by Rustinho »

Hi there folks!

Thought I'd better join up having been lurking for a short while.

I left a deposit (ewww!) on a 2.0HDi LX Family estate today. Will hopefully be picking it up next Thursday lunchtime.

I previously had a Toyota Hilux Surf 2.4 diesel but, as much fun as it was off roading, it had to go cos it was just guzzling too much fuel (even on veg oil it was costing a fortune to go far in it!). I've been pootling about in a Citroen Saxo 1.1 SXi for the last couple of months or so (bought it for the wife to learn to drive in and ended up using it more than the Surf cos it was cheaper to run). The only problem with that is that it's just soooo small we can't go anywhere as a family and take the dogs with us, etc, so a 406 estate seemed a logical choice.

I've been after one since I got rid of the Surf but have only just got my hands on enough money to buy a reasonable one. I even went to look at one earlier this week only to turn up at the garage to find the 406 I wanted to look at being loaded up on a trailer to be taken home by it's new owner.

Anyway, that's enough rambling from me for the time being. I hope to get to know a few of you folks better as I spend a bit more time around here being sociable!

Take it easy folks,

Rusty. 8)

Hi Rusty & welcome to the forum. 8)

Hope your new car serves you well - they're very good, reliable, roomy, mile-munchers. Our dogs wouldn't be seen in anything else.

I guess you know already, but the HDi's common rail and won't run on veg oil.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks for the friendly welcome!

I did actually consider getting an old 405 so that I could run it on veggie oil but they're getting a bit long in the tooth now...

you could have got a mark1 406 estate with a 1.9td engine, these also happily run on veg oil. (not the 2.1td)

good luck with the new car
