Hi All :)

Post by ShadowBoy »

Sorry about starting a new thread just for me to say hi but I couldn't find where your intro pages are (if you have them :))
I wanted to join this forum and club for all the valuable advice and information other users give...

I'm 20 years old and just recently brought my first 406 (after being in love with them for many years)
its an X reg (2000) Rapier 1.8L in Blue, It runs fantastic and only done 90,000 miles which i thought
was very good for a motorway car thats 12 years old.

If other users would prefer me to post this elsewhere on the forum could you please let me know where
Thanks :)

Welcome to the club mate! :)
We use the "Welcome" forum for introductions, I've moved your post there so no worries. We're a relaxed bunch anyway so it wouldn't have mattered! :)

I had a 1.8 petrol too - except that mine was a V-reg (1999) and it was LX trim, not Rapier. Mine had only done about 27,000 miles on it when I bought it in November 2008.

Sadly, after an encounter with White Van Man in 2010 (the rotten bugger crashed into her when she was parked up by the roadside, then he fecked off without leaving insurance details), she's gone to the great car park in the sky :(

While I've got you here, I couldn't interest you in a pre-owned PowerFlow cat-back stainless steel exhaust system, could I? It's the one I fitted to the old saloon. It only fits the 1.8 petrol model, so it's of sod-all use to anyone else (my new car is a 2.2 Coupe)

The PowerFlow system was £320 all-inclusive when I bought it, but you can have it for £100 plus postage.

Owing to the size of it, it'll need to be couriered, unless you fancy a trip to Aberdeen (or maybe meet up near the borders)? If you do, you could get it fitted locally and have it on the car when you drive back down.

It's currently in two pieces - the backbox is not connected to the rest of the system, but this can be done at fitting.

Please excuse the diagram - the size of the objects on the diagram are basically to-scale, but the angles of the pipes aren't exactly right:

Sizes shown are to the nearest half-centimeter.

This is the backbox:

This is the bent bit of pipe which goes into the backbox:

This is the long section of pipe with the kink in the middle, and the hanger on one side:

This is the middle silencer:

At the top of the middle silencer is the pipe that joins in to the catalytic converter:

The "factory standard" look is not to be shunned, especially if your car is free of any bodywork damage (paint blemishes, rust spots, dents, scratches, etc) and the interior is clean. There's nothing wrong with modifying your car for the car show circuit, but just remember that nobody (sane) likes to see the sort of car that appears on http://www.barryboys.co.uk ... keep the modifications tasteful and we'll all get along just fine...

I guess that lets quite a lot of us out. :(

Suspect a fair few of us that are not averse to a get-together, but don't want to 'show' our well-used but trusted daily drivers
