Another new 406 owner
Hi, just bought a 2002 Rapier HDi 90 a couple of weeks ago - I was actually looking at Citroen C5's but went to see one at a dealer and the car I wanted to see was out on loan, so looked at this instead, was impressed and got a pretty good deal on it (well, for a main stealer! ). I think I made the right choice, I certainly wasn't planning on buying a C5 for its looks anyway
The other rear passenger door is pretty badly scratched and there's a few dents around, but besides that it's pretty good. Electric mirrors and front passenger window don't work but no great loss, at least the aircon does! Engine cover is hanging on by one mount, I think I'll just take it off altogether. As discussed in another thread, it doesn't seem to have climate control or alloy wheels like a UK spec Rapier would.
Still getting used to the dieselness - I upgraded from a gutless '98 Fiesta 1.3 (yes, not the 1.25, the bad one, and a banjaxed one at that) so this is a whole new world to me, and I know it's only 90 bhp but the power seems immense in comparison! I guess that's more the torque than anything else
It's pretty low mileage, 97k miles. Timing belt apparently done at 75k - when would I next need to worry about this, considering I don't know how long ago it was?
It's got a Clarion RD3 CD player - is there an aux-in adaptor available for these? I know they're not the best stereos but I'd like to keep the display integration and it seems to have a CD changer function which is promising.
The glove box and the carpet just behind it were damp when I got it. I cleaned out a load of crap under the scuttle cover (looks like it was parked under a tree for a while) and around the pollen filter (need to replace that too) and it's been dry since, but we haven't had any serious rain yet so I'm not sure if it could still be a problem. Anywhere I should check in particular?
Also, is there any way to reconfigure the central locking so it doesn't unlock all doors when you unlock one from the inside? I'm too used to no central locking

Yes - pull the wire off of the motor in the driver's door. Wouldn't reccommend it though. You'll get used to the central locking after a while. Are your half leather seats manual or electric adjustment? Also, is there any way to reconfigure the central locking so it doesn't unlock all doors when you unlock one from the inside? Hi & welcome to the world of pugishness.
Dispensing with the Ford & rejecting the Citroen will do your credibility no harm at all.
Nice 406 there.

Well I don't want to disable the central locking completely, I like the remote control and stuff, I guess I'll just get used to it.waue1978 wrote:Yes - pull the wire off of the motor in the driver's door. The seats are manual but have tilt and height adjustments. Do the UK Rapiers have electric seats?
Thanks everyone, I'm sure I'll stay around here for a while - I've found loads of useful information here so far, like how I don't have a FAP or DMF to worry about, and what that funny hum from the engine bay after switching off the engine is
Is the Haynes manual any good? I noticed there's a separate one for the D9, I guess due to all the engine and electric changes.

Re: Another new 406 owner
UK Rapiers have manual seats, but they also just have plain black cloth seats with no armrests. The only models with half leather are the SRi (manual adjustment) & the SE (electric).

OK, I'm even more confused now - http://www.pug406.com/wiki/index.php?ti ... m_Packages
Does that list not correspond to UK market trim levels?
I noticed Parkers says what you say about half leather, is that correct so? I know mine's not an import anyway
Here's the interior if you're interested:
Service Box says:
TRIM LEVEL LOW - LOW
INTERIOR TRIM TYPE F690 DAYTONA BRAID + "NL" L005 LEATHER
UPHOLSTERY COLOUR "FM"
DOOR TRIM BRUSHED ALUMINIUM EFFECT DECOR
It seems common enough for Irish examples at least:

Re: Another new 406 owner
That's half-leather alright, like you get in the SRi D9s. I wish I had that in my old saloon, but finding a set in good condition in a car being broken is like finding rocking horse poo.
Very nice motor you got there.

Re: Another new 406 owner
That info refers to UK models & spec really. Interesting spec you have though - leather on the seats, but not on the steering wheel. Do the instruments have 5 chrome ringed dials? That's what UK Rapiers have (along with a set of alloy wheels. What it says about the door trim is interesting too - says you have brushed aluminium, but looks more like the black ash effect that I have in the photos.ZilogJones wrote:OK, I'm even more confused now - http://www.pug406.com/wiki/index.php?ti ... m_Packages

Re: Another new 406 owner
The clocks don't have chrome rings. The door trim is actually a blue brushed metal effect, it didn't come out too great in those photos. Here's another, at least they look blue here:waue1978 wrote:Interesting spec you have though - leather on the seats, but not on the steering wheel. Do the instruments have 5 chrome ringed dials? @lozz: Yes the seats are really comfortable, driving my Fiesta on long journeys (100-200 km) was a crippling experience in comparison! I wasn't really that interested in leather seats, I find them too noisy and not particularly nice when it's really cold (maybe not so much a problem if they are heated ) or very hot - but these are a good compromise.

Right so your cars a rapier...
Has steel wheels...
No Climate Control...
Half leather interior...
And no leather steering wheel?
You sure your cars not an LX/GLX with SRi/SE interior?
Either way... I like it
