Hello

Post by christine »

I've got a 1999 2l hdi saloon.
I was left stranded without a car and two dogs after my 306 hdi estate had an encounter with a black cab. That 306 hdi was a proper 'friday car' and gave me no end of grief - which was a shame because I had searched the land looking for a 2002 model because of low emissions and fuel economy (more mpg than the 2001 reg). Before that I had a 306 petrol hatch, which caused me no problems.
So Im stranded as my dogs NEED transportation. This 406 was just sitting there unwanted. It had been for sale for ages and ages apparently. It had low mileage. As I was desparate, and it was a diesel, and a Pug, I bought it. I got to say this car, so far, has been brilliant. There are no fancy mods, or remapping, or anything else, but its proved fit for purpose.
Ive had the car for over a year now and its never let me down.
The big dog occupies the back seat, and the little dog sits up front most of the time.

Hi there, welcome :cheesy: What went wrong with the 306? The reason I ask is modern diesels don't really like lots of short journeys, so if you're only doing 3 miles there & back a day to where you're walking the dogs perhaps this was a contributing factor, more than being built on a Friday (I thought it was a Monday morning Ford :? )

Btw if you still have the chassis number of the 306 we can tell you what day of the week it rolled off the end of the production line

Hi & welcome to the forum. 8)

406's and dogs get on well, in my experience. :)
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

thanks for the welcome.
Exhaust pipe fell off, the expensive bit near the front of the car. The fuel tank spewed out when i filled it up. The fuel pump went. I was putting in a 70-80 mile round trip every week, and i regularly did 15 mile round trips to walk the dogs, but alot of that admittedly was sitting in jams. When I got that estate, I did wonder whether I was doing the right thing, something kept nagging me that it was a dud, but i ignored my head because i was do love them 306s. All paper work gone, only memories remain!!!
