HI Trem, why don't you check the dvla licensing website. It'll show if it's been re-taxed.

Can be depressing though, all my old cars except my last 406 are all now off the road, including my beloved '96 306 D Turbo, gutted, it was a minter.

On the other end of the scale, I had an AXGT that was written off while parked up in a car park (incidentally, it was pushed into dairees's old Nova parked next door). However, this went back on the road for a few years after the insurance paid me off.

I'd forgotten all about that site!

The only one of my old cars that's still alive is my previous 406, a grey d8 1.8 lx, but I knew that one was still about because I saw it recently :cheesy:.

I knew the fiat uno was rusty,
I knew the nova was rusty,
I knew the solara didn't have much life left, and that Trevor the paperman had managed to knock a wheel off it in the middle of town (although it did recover from that incident),
I knew that the fiesta was a shed, despite the fact that it showed up in a local car sales with £2200 on the window 18 months after I sold it for £1700, I only had that one for a few months, got it for free after the previous owner was going to scrap it when she had a new car  (I split the profits with her, I'm not that nasty  ),
I knew that the bloke I sold my Mondeo to eventually killed it through lack of TLC, it was due a timing belt 8K after I sold it, I told him that at the time. 30k later the engine blew up, he hadn't so much as checked the oil   !

You won't believe this.

When I insured 'her indoors' BMW Compact they told me the registration number refered to a Honda

Low and behold, that's what the DVLA web thing said just now

I don't understand, it won't recognise her car as a BMW :frown:

No Problem Neil, and Welton, I'd get that checked out with the DVLA, just in case something untoward is going on. At least you can clear it up. As for my old motors (Dai will remember a few of these, as most of them have been parked on his drive at some time or other)

Nova: well and truely written off (not my fault)
Fiesta: Was never taxed after I sold it, was crap anyway
Biege Cavalier: Last seen on Glynneath bank broken down
White AXGT: Written off, but still went back on the road
405: Sold it as mint, but was never taxed again
Grey Cavailer: Went on for a few years, various sightings, but has followed all cavs now, scrapland
306 D Turbo: The most dissappointing, boy racer must have raced it too far. Swines!!
Red AXGT: Sold it on it's last legs, so no surprise there
Volvo 440: Lived for a year or 2 after selling, could go forever with the TLC I gave it
and my 406: Only just been re-taxed.

Also lads, take a look at this RAC website, it'll tell you the model the car is (e.g. LX, GLX etc)

RAC Lookup

I'm full of 'em today!!

[nostalgia] I sold an X reg (new shape) 1982 Cavalier 1.6L locally in 1991, I saw it again 10 years later in 2001  spoke to the owner, it had changed hands a lot but was still going strong.

It had been 'Ziebart' rust proofed by my uncle when he bought it brand new in 1982 and was still fairly rust free 19 years later

I changed the valve stem seals in 1990, it only had 35000 miles then, I sold it at 50000. The engine was sweet, the 'Family II' engine :| [/nostalgia]
