Do dealers clean your car after repairs/Servicing

Post by neildavies »

I just found out on another post that Dealers are supposed to clean your car every time you pay for work done on it. The only time I've had a car cleaned is when we took the 206cc back to the dealer where we bought it for warranty work(Newport).

Since then, I've used dealers for a service (206cc in Cardiff) and repairs (coupe in Abergavenny) and neither have cleaned my cars.

In Abergavenny's defence, I was waiting for the repairs (2.5 hours) so they may have thought I'd rather have the car back quicker. It's going back in there tomorrow for the day, so I'll find out then (allthough it's pretty clean already at the moment).

But the Cardiff dealer who serviced the 206cc had it all day and the car could've done with a wash at the time. I was a bit miffed when I parted with £160 for a glorified oil change and had to get back into a dirty car.

I certainly had at least one car back from Griffin Mill, Pontypridd without it being washed. Can't remember whether is was mine in for a recall (no spend) or the wife's when she had to pay to have a "free" 6 month check up (£25 for a rubber stamp in the book - they made her pay 'cos her car's an import :? ), may have been both! I know when we had to shell out £375 for the BSi on the wife's car a few months ago it came back gleaming 8) !

Never had a car that needed Main Stealer attention before these two though  8)

Neil, your poll needs a "sometimes" button:roll:

Well Welton, I spent £227 today, had a 1007 curtesy car (don't ask, just don't ask) and I got back without it being cleaned.

I said nothing, just relieved to get the coupe back after driving about 100 miles in a bumble bee (as my wife aptly called it)

I spent £272, had a wander 'round the car park and found the car before I went to reception. It hadn't been cleaned, so the following conversation took place;

Bloke "That'll be £272.65 please sir"
Me "You aren't really intending to relieve me of £272 and give it back to me dirty are you?"
Bloke "Oh, no it hasn't been washed has it? Errrm, I can get that done right away sir but you may have to wait about half an hour for it."
Me "Yes please, it's minging! I'll wait."
Bloke "Please take a seat in the showroom and help yourself to a coffee, I'll come and find you when it's ready, sorry about that...."

So I had 2 free coffees and a long mooch around various cars before leaving in my nice shiny pug, cleaned inside and out. Dunno whether this particularly accomodating service was influenced by the fact that my boss was in the showroom telling a sales girl that he's looking for a new car on the new reg next month, and that he was interested in the very nice £28500 407 coupe. Although I don't suppose the dude on the service desk would have made the connection. Still... better than being in work wasn't it?

I'm glad we had this thread going or I probably wouldn't even have thought of it.

BTW that girl offered the Boss that '7 coupe with a list price of £284?? for £24K dead  . £4.5K off just like that. I must start my own business.....or perhaps just pretend I have my own business :?

Yeah as in it'll take half an hour, the car was gone before I'd stood up from the desk... Quite a thorough job actually, washed outside, dusted and vacuumed inside, not as good as I do myself but much less effort

Just a bit annoying that they had to be asked to clean it, particularly with the state it was in :frown:

I never let a garage clean my car I have an A4 laminated sheet of paper saying do not wash because once I put my car in for a service not long after spending 8 hours machine polishing the thing asked the nice little trained monkey at th eservice counter to instruct the other trained monkeys not to wash the car as it was perfectly clean picked the car up and yes it had been washed was still sittingwith standing water on the paintwork and the paintwork looked as though it had been washed with a brillo pad full of swirl marks and fine scrtches, stormed in pointed out th emarksto the service manager and he said they were all read there i was well p1ssed off explained the proccess I went through to get the paintwork perfect and said I would be dropping in an invoice so all in I got th eservice FOC and a cheque for £180 for the hassle  so please don't let trained monkeys wash your car they have no respect for it
