What should I do with the old girl?
Honest opinions here guys please
Miss Pug:
Pros:
Nice big engine
Powerful
Light car
A lot of service history that I have done on her
Bodywork in good condition, no dents
MOT until May 2014
Cons:
No service history from 2005-2011
No idea when the belts were last done
Continuous ABS fault
Front wheel bearings about to drop off
A few minor scratches on bodywork
No tax and currently SORN
Should I try to restore her to the way she left the factory, taking the back leathers back out and trying to get hold of a grey boot trim so I can rob the seats for Pugster
Should I break her, or *TRY* to sell her?

Not that economical to run, about 33mph on a good day (motorway)
Expensive to tax (£143 for 6 months, £260 for a years)

double post - I added two more cons. Thought I was editing it... Why can't we edit and delete in this section?

Re: What should I do with the old girl?
I would take the bits you want and then advertise it on ebay/gumtree but be honest with the facts, but i would also ask/look online etc and see how much it is worth scrap value, that way you can rob whatever you want of it and not feel guilty about it.

Then if she doesn't sell then break her...... Fingers crossed she sells because being honest, I think she's too good to be broken... yes, ABS is annoying but she's one hell of a car and it would be a real shame to break!trem1 wrote:I would take the bits you want and then advertise it on ebay/gumtree but be honest with the facts, but i would also ask/look online etc and see how much it is worth scrap value, that way you can rob whatever you want of it and not feel guilty about it.

Re: What should I do with the old girl?
Breaking a car yourself takes alot of time and effort plus your normally left with the shell to get rid of,might be just as easy tho not as profitable to scrap it as a whole car, gets rid of it and you dont have the aggro from your neighbours/landlord/council who can get quite uppity when the see a car in bits longterm.
If you break it how long do you imagine it will be from decision to getting rid of the shell??
My guess 6-8 months

I'd weigh it in and forget all about it, it will have limited appeal having a petrol engine and by being honest about the faults you're only going to get silly offers for it anyway.
What's going to get bought as a breaker? couple of headlights, a wing maybe, door, it'll look a right heap sat there and piss you off even more.

Re: What should I do with the old girl?
Uhhh..... I would sell it. Take all the bits you need from there, tidy it up nicely and put it on eBay. You will no doubt get more for a whole working car than scrap. At least it will live a little longer with the owner.
Breaking it is messy and a lot of work.
From what I remember, there's not much wrong with it other than that pesky ABS issue...

Re: What should I do with the old girl?
Option A has to be to try to sell it. Even with the faults & you cherry picking the best bits off it, an estate with a years MOT has to be worth £500 of somebody's money.
Option B however, is to break it, sell what you don't want, keep what is useful & then banger race the remainder! You can still get the scrap value for what's left afterwards, although I would recommend that you let Dave be the pilot for Miss Pug's swansong adventure!

Re: What should I do with the old girl?
ithink your best off selling it.
if it was a diesel then breaking itmight be a good way to go to save spare parts for your other one.
but as its petrol. you wouid be saving parts you don't need.
ive broke 100s of cars- at the end of the day you end up hoarding stuff that might not sell then get fed up with falling over it
then binning it. so hardly worth it.
its Mot'd so someone will buy it,.

When were you last at a trackday?lozz wrote:406 is no good for banger racing -pugs don't last 5 mins on a track
Although there are very few 406's out on track, the last one I saw was a coupe at pugfest and that went into the gravel at the hairpin..
