I bought a peugeot racing bicycle in a car boot sale and i firstly didnt know they made manual bicycles (knew about the motorised wasps) but i must say its a very fine device, the build quality is very solid, almost not french. And for such a well made thing its very light, and all for £15.

Like(s):
- I like the idea of an electric car, it's quite a futuristic concept

Dislike(s):
- I dislike the idea of making more stops at filling stations than I would if I was driving an Aston Martin (most electric cars have a 150 - 250 mile range)
- I dislike the idea of driving a car that looks almost like the designer deliberately made it look sh*t (most electric cars are like this, exceptions are the Tesla Roadster and the Citroen Survolt Concept)
- I dislike the idea of having to charge up my "green" car using electricity that is still supplied by filthy fossil-fuel burning power stations

The only electric car I find acceptable and ready for general use is the Honda Clarity FCX. Electric motors drive the wheels, but the electricity is generated from a hydrogen fuel cell. 300+ miles range, about 110 HP, top speed of around 120 MPH, looks and drives just like a normal family car. The only waste product is clean fresh water - you can pass it through a Brita water filter and drink it, it's so clean. And because you're running it from a fuel cell, you don't need to haul around thousands of very heavy battery cells (which are expensive, and cause a lot of environmental damage to produce and dispose of). Only catch is, it's not for sale yet - you can lease one, and there's no hydrogen filling stations at all in the UK yet.

For the moment? Gimme that V8 8)

I'm with Highlander on this one, fuel cell cars are the way forward.

I dislike hybrids and pure electric cars quite intensely;

Hybrids because the production and end of life disposal of the batteries rapes the planet and after a couple of years the batteries lose any charge holding capacity they once had and you end up with a crappy 1.5 petrol car that weighs nearly 2 tonnes ('cos of all the batteries), is painfully slow and is less efficient than a 2.0 petrol pugs.

Electric cars - "oooh I'm saving the planet because I drive a g-wizz!" Where does the power you recharge it with come from? The fossil fuel fired power station down the road you f*cking numpties!!! :evil: :evil: :roll:

They need to get the infrastrucure right for hydrogen and forget any development of rechargeable electric cars or hyprids. Any money spent on that would be far better off spent on R&D for renewable and sustainable energy, oh hang on, that would put the oil companies out of business..... :supafrisk:

Id love a hybird bicycle, one of them yokes with the you cycle bit on the flats, and then the electric motor for the hills, although ive seen in an antique shop a petrol/ride yourself hybird which is good because it emits real pollution.
With all these electric shitboxes what will happen to the great motoring sounds like the clatter of an xud, the growl of an alfa v6, the scream of a ferrari engine. I dont particularly like the sound of my hoover

Not at present. Largely because I hate automatic transmissions.

Current electric cars seem to be attempts to put an electric motor into conventional cars, and operate them with conventional controls.
I think there is a lot of diesel-electric railway technology that has simply been ignored so far.

There is also the environmental impact of manufacture, and disposal of old cars, to consider.

And I'm averaging nearly 60mpg anyway.

Anybody else seen this:

Mini adventure: how far can an electric car go?
The BBC's Brian Milligan attempts to drive an electric Mini from London to Scotland, using only public charge points.
Ffs, 4 days? Wouldn't a horse and cart get there quicker? It would certainly be more ecologically friendly :roll:
