I don't have a favourite one on this list. VW Scirocco probably comes closest and while I certainly wouldn't be against any of these brands, I don't love any of them.

Actually, an A5 isn't bad looking either.... :?

German cars? Meh

If it had to be an executive car and I wasn't allowed to pick a Peugeot, then it'd be the Aston Martin Rapide - and if I wasn't allowed one of those either, for some reason, then it'd be either the Jaguar XFR or XJR (something about Jaguar's 4.2 litre supercharged V8 is strangely appealing, not to mention that both cars are absolutely gorgeous).

I currently own 2 BMW's, I've had 4 of them in 2 yrs. I wouldn't buy a new BMW, dont like the shape, stick to E36 for me or 10 yr old M5 is hopefully my next car.

A vote for Mercedes for me, nothing modern mind, I like the look of those old fintails like the European bad guys used to drive in 60s films.

By Audi I presume that's all VAdGe cars, Šteta, Hitler's people's car etc. Hmm, If a Mk2 Scirocco came my way cheap then perhaps, otherwise poke the lot of 'em.

I still can't believe the rate of new models being spewed out of BMW and Audi  it seems that as soon as you've got used to seeing one model then there's a new one :o BMW seem to have an extraordinary range of cars which used to go against manufacturers leaving some models a bit pointless (like the 1 series).

I'd never have a new BMW because it looks like you're showing off.

I do like the Audi estates, they look classy, but then again everyone says the ride is too hard and they like putting the engine wayyyy up front spoiling the handling a bit.

Ahhh, now there is one German motor I would really like and that's a Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Audi is the only one I haven't had yet. Learnt to drive in an 83 518 & had another 8 Beemers since - (various 3 & 5 series). First Merc was a 95 E280 when I was 23 & only had another 2 of those. In terms of the overall experience though, it's very hard to beat an E39 5 Series with a 6 cylinder engine - a point which I was reminded of when I was driving my father's X plate 523i back from Bagshot to Andover when I bought it. At 10 years old with 98k it still felt more solid than anything else I've ever owned.

When I was a youngster my dad had a 735i and I can remember it being so quiet and comfortable even when tanking it down the motorway so I've always had a soft spot for them. Newer models however as with all german cars have nasty 'sterile' interiors with no character at all. Been in a couple of audi's recently and lost the feeling in my legs after 10 minutes, not the kind of place you want to sit for long.

I love the exterior of the Scirocco but as it's a golf with a body kit, again not a pleasant place to sit.

So for me it would be an old 7 series but I'd hate to keep one on the road with servicing and the cost of spares. Money no object a 20 year old 750csi.

Do you mean 750il or 850CSi? 750 came with the standard 300bhp V12, but the 850CSi was an M special with a 5.6 380bhp lump. As far as I know it never got put in the 7 series, but it'd be a nice idea for somebody who had the resources (& bottomless pockets for the petrol) to mix the best of both...

I was seriously tempted to have an E39 530D before going for the Pug - chickened out over reports of turbo failures / £1800 DIY fixes, plus the necessity of having a car 3/4 years older for the same price.

Now that you mention it, I always do look at E39 5 series - they look very unpretentious and "proper". No other BMW comes this close.

My favourite is Mercedes Benz i always liked mercs, ok not the A class, and the late 90s e class because it was trying to be retro. but there is just something nice about a big merc, being sensible the diesels are the ones to go for but the petrol head in me shouts out for the new e63 estate, but it still needs a star on the bonnet. The main attraction for a merc is the solidity but also in the big petrol ones is that they are brutally powerful.

I dont like current bmws, blame mr bangle for that they dont look good outside, and the inside is just a big i drive screen. The only new bmw i like is the z4 its nice, but they were going so well in the 90s the 5 series Bmw was great, id go for any M5.

As for audi they are good, there is some absolutley great looking cars like the a5 coupe and sportback, the a6, the new a4 and the R8, and the interiors on high spec brochure cars seem great. I wouldnt buy an A4 because there is too many and the main problem i see with audis is theres no rear wheel drive ones.
VW just isnt really up there the passat CC might be good but its no CLS, as for a golf i know the A3 is essentially a golf but its a bit more exclusive than a golf, and i dont like the beetle.

But then i look at all the german cars, there is no C6 among them, they dont make any Maserati Quattroporte, and they dont have any JAAAGs which if i couldnt buy PSA stuff id go and buy an old shape XJR in black.

Does anyone aspire to a Lexus?
