3 miles, cold engine, fair traffic and a right foot that's not as light as it used to be

I was amazed to see it saying around 50mpg on the screen as I was coming down Keele bank though. 4th gear no throttle should mean 99.9!

The D9's display goes up to 999.9 MPG for some, useless, reason.

Well done fella for having the guts to splice and connect all this up (I haven't got the knowledge :( )

3 scary points:

1) Cutting what I hoped was the fuel gauge wire
2) Drilling a hole in the bodywork and hoping it led to somewhere I could get at from inside
3) Cutting 1368 when I couldn't actually read the last digit and worked out what it was by identifying every other wire in the loom

Question - you can get a basic external temperature gauge which just displays two digits - not like the multifunction screen on the GLX's in the UK...

Would it be just as simple as plugging in the screen and wiring up the external temperature gauge into the plug in the door. - I can get both items from a wreck? The wreck is a 2.1TD, I don't see why it wouldn't work as it's not reliant on the ECU?

Cheers,

Joel

Should work. Can't see the basic display needing more than 4 wires: 12v, 0v and 2 wires to the thermistor in the wing mirror

I already have the plug behind the coin tray - if the plug is at the bottom of the passenger door...it should theoretically work with no modification if I install the temp sensor at the bottom of the mirror - ie Plug and Play?

Hello,

I've got a 1999 406 2.0HDI(110) GLX, registered in June 99', which has the MFD fitted by default because of the Radio/CD Changer. It was originally set to position 4 on the MFD to display only the temp and radio (though the radio is missing from the MFD due to an aftermarket headunit being fitted by myself). I've since changed it to position 3 which by default displays temp and range, it gives me the temp like before to the left side of the MFD but ---M for the range.

I guess my question is, can the MFD be installed in a 2.0 HDI? And what are the chances of the Wiper Stalk button functioning if replaced with a stalk which has the button, or is it quite probable that i'll have to fit the wires for that too?

If you could point me in the in the right direction for diagrams or software I can "purchase" in order to get the information I require that would be grand, I've got Autodata but it doesn't seem to contain any information regarding the MFD!

Thanks,

Phil

Tell a lie, Autodata does contain some information regarding the MFD under additional diagrams, this is what i've found so far for the 2.0HDI.

Have a search through Eoin's posts in the electrical section; he's got it working on his D9.
The trip functions need to be enabled in the bsi which means a visit to a dealer so they can turn the options on.

Edit: Here's Eoin's post :)

I forgot to mention it's a D8, although HDI kind of a transition model, best of both worlds!

If there's a wire 1368 coming out of your ECU you may be in luck, but I think they're specific to Bosch ECUs and I don't think any of the Diesels have that. Research in this area is somewhat light though...
