My '98's fine too, but on the '04 it was the first job I had to do. It seemed to me the cable wasn't pulling it far enough so I took a gamble and dismantled the filler - it wasn't there but I made up a slotted tube to take some of the slack out of the cable and it works fine. I mean to have a go at the lever end when the weather clears up but I have a feeling it's going to be a bit of a marathon to get that side of the carpet up.

Try gripping the pin in the middle with some small grips or pliers & turning it - maybee some WD40.
Then work the pin up, you may need some help & a small screwdriver to get it past the retainer at the top.

Have just repaired mine with the beloved clothes peg   All i used was a small flat blade screw drive to hold bacck the small retaining plastic clip at the top. Then a larger flat blade screw driver at the bottom to push up so peg would fit. Job done 10 min job Many thanks :cheesy: :cheesy:

is there any danger of the spring pushing out the flap too fast and damaging the hinges? whats the cause of this said problem?

As far as im aware i doubt it would damage the hinge. The problem from what i can gather is due to the cable going slack from what i have read. Hence the flap does not open unless you have someone push the flap while you hold the realease in the car or prop the release open with something.

The problem is caused by a bit of plastic breaking of the flap, if you look at my pics you can see where it used to be, at the centre of the hinge. You can see the original spring on the body side of the hinge but once the flap breaks there is nothing for the spring to work against.download/file.php?id=160
