gear box

Hi to all iv got a 406 1.8 1996 the clutch throught it was a good idea to explode and smashed a few holes in the bell housing i can smell gear box oil safe to asume the clutch and box is a bit porly, dose anyone know if i can drop other pug gear box in the car and what mods i would have to do? or has it got to be the exact box , thanks to all.......

There's 3 manual boxes on the 406 - BE3, ML5T and ML5C. Each type I think has different linkages. Also they have different ratios when attached to different engines

find out what gearbox you have in your car as i will be helping a guy on here dismantle a " 406 2.0 exec " over the weekend , if anyone can confirm the gearbox is same and you agree a price with " chaz " , i will deliver the gearbox anywhere in country for fuel cost .

The same thing happened on my 1.8 405. Probably the same type of gear box. I kept driving it until the whine got tooo loud but it never seized!
If its the Be3 box then this can be dropped with the car in situ. You shouldn't have the subframe either on the 1.8. I am not saying it's an easier job, but it is technically straightforward.
