Bottom Engine mount

Is it possible to replace the bottom engine mount without removing the drive shaft?
I had my car booked in for this to be fixed today, but got a call from the garage early this afternoon saying that they 'hadnt had time to do the job and i would need to book it in for another day'.....garage must be doin real well for itself if it can pick and chose which jobs it bothers with.... is there a way to get the job done myself without needing to remove that drive shaft
the garage also said it would be 2.5 hours labour, does that sound right or is that milking the job, i'd have thought a pro could do it inside 2 hours with all their equipment.

Late D9s with some engines have a bottom mount with a replaceable bush. Apparently it can be changed in situ, but I don't know how long it'd survive as you'd normally use a hydraulic press to change the bush in a couple of smooth motions
Before that, the driveshaft needs to come out as the bush is non-replaceable and the mount is also the intermediate bearing for the driveshaft.

Hi yes you can i did mine but using a high tensile bolt you can use normal but get a few as the strip quick and also some angle iron try and build a bridge so as not to pull on the inner rubber and also make sure the engine mount is the right way round best way is to get a bar and hammer the hold one out and then sand out any burs grease it up and gently bolt the new one in but hammer it after a few mm as you will need to get it in level the new mount should have a tape already. It takes ages though and you will find if you dont have strong enough steel like 5+mm thick it will bend.

I've successfully changed my bottom engine mount today without removing the driveshaft thanks to some tips from Adam, it did take a while but the weather was good so i'm happy and i didnt have to pay the garage to do it

Glad you got it sorted.
Was going to say I have a spare driveshaft seal if you needed one if you decided to take the driveshaft route.
I didnt need it as my mates garage had a special tool for pressing in the mount. It took longer for them to get the trays off from underneath then it did to swap over the mount.
They disconnected one of the turbo pipes then used an airsaw to cut the old one out then pressed the new one all in. I was watching whilst changing some tyres and only managed to get to my 3rd by the time they had finished.....
It was my first attempt at changing tyres though..
