question about turbo's and potential for tuning?

Post by sr666 »

hey all I'm new to this and am scouting to see what potential there are for tuning for the turbo'd 406's, If I recall the 406 is a 2.0 8v engine putting out 155bhp?

would it take much to get it to 200bhp? I'm thinking it'd be possible to get it maybe with an induction kit, cat back exhaust, new maniflold, re map and maybe a new intercooler but would this hit the 200 mark,

If not has anyone else hit that mark?

One final favour is has anyone got a picture of what's under a turbo engine bay at all? many thanks

The 406 is everything from a 2(lie!)bhp 1.6 to a 211bhp V6. The 406 with a 2.0 turbo petrol engine has 150bhp.

Apparently there's been quite a few with around 200bhp on the standard turbo, 250+ with a non-standard garratt unit and modified 'bits', but longevity suffers. badly. These things seem to love the standard setup, but die pretty quickly with extra boost. The engine block doesn't die, it's the ancillary equipment that can't keep up

As standard, the 150bhp tubby feels slow but is a lot quicker than it feels, the soft seats and suspension take a lot away. However, in its standard form it'll take ludicrous amounts of abuse and still out-last the body by a crazy amount

It's a very unique engine. It' very very lazy and doesn't like revving over 4k. Like a diesel. Most of the time you'll think it's a diesel... but if you floor it it does shift quite impressively, and it doesn't sound gay either ;)

Hi

Im putting the same engine in my 306 if it ever gets finished and am looking for around the 200bhp mark

so far though all ive got planned is

new intercooler as the standard one will be more trouble to fit in a 306

dumpvale

205 1.9 gti cams nearly identical to the original sri one but have a slightly larger lobes

the original t25 turbo with machined compressor housing to allow for a t28 compressor wheel

and a remap

im only planning on uping the bost to 10psi as i wanna try and keep abit of reliability
SRI 306 project On Hold Due to Baby and Missus sucking my wallet dry
