Non start..............

Post by roverv8 »

Hi all im mark, normaly on the landy forums but my 406 is rapidly playing up,
over the last 8 days i have had the AA out twice because of non start when hot,

last wednesday,

picked my boy up from school (3pm)drove for about 3 mile and parked up, on returning to my car the engine turned over and over but would not fire,(was only out of it for 10 mins) she did try at one point and missed then battery went dead, tryed jumping bout an hour later with the wifes car but she just turns over,so after some thinking i called the AA, they came out to me at about 930 ish, that everning, because i got to the car before they did i decided to give it one last try,bit of heat and she fired up no probs, the AA guy checked the battery all ok heater plugs were taking the right amount of curent so they were ok,

today friday same again,
the AA guy thinks it may be the stop solenoid or poss a temp sensor,
any one have a simular problem?

peugeot 406 glx 12 v diesel,R reg 1998,
ps,if my banner and pic of my pug is not alould please mail me,many thanks.

Possibly the stop solenoid, there is a common fault with these Lucas / Delphi injection pumps when the gaskets on the solenoid deform and make it lazy. Mine has this problem, but in my case the yellow engine light comes on and it runs on for 5 seconds after you remove the key.
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!

Don't know if this is related, but my bro's 306td does something similar & it seems to be the advance solenoid sticking. Hasn't been able to cure it - usually fails to start about once a fortnight - he's just found a quick way to operate it manually a few times :frown:
