Sorry if this topic has already been posted but..
I have a 96 (p) d8 2.0 16v LX, and when I put my foot down there is a second or so before I actually get moving, anyone with ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Sticky cable? WD40 is your friend

Sticky cable would affect revs on the way down, not on the way up.

Welcome Will!
Get under the bonnet with the engine running and move the throttle actuator (semi circular sprung bit that cable goes into); does it do the same thing?

Thanks for the replies, it seems to be ok in neutral, it is when in gear there is that delay especially when cold. but even when warm there is a bit of a delay

I am at a loss really because the car has always been well maintained.

Sounds like the clutch slipping.

is it a delay before it moves off, or before the revs start to rise?
i.e. if it revs off and THEN starts to pull away, it could indeed be a clutch.

Strip throtle body off and clean airflow sensor they tend to clough up with carbon deposits from the engine breather also chech breatherpipes and ports on throtle body . It cured my problem to a very resposive throtle . You might even be tempted to go as far as did to polish your intake manifold and have raw predator response and power the 2nd time. If you have a manual gearbox smell at the clutch for burn smell ,tell tail sign of clucth thats going, auto gearbox will either have low ATF oil or converter seals or brake rings have packed up both last ones costly to fix.

I think i know what one of the problems may be now..
Was coming home from work the other night, when i thought I was being over-taken by a boy racer. It was when i changed gear I realised it was me.
Bought the car in October so thought the slight 'rasp' was normal, Now I know the exhaust is Knackered, just as it joins the rear silencer.
Thanks for your help.
Thunderstorm, I will follow your tips when I get a couple of days off, Cheers.
