Oil leak!

Hi chaps :)
My car is booked in for its MOT on Friday, can it be failed for having an oil leak?
I've got a weep coming from the rocker cover gasket and another coming from somewhere on the back of the engine.
I'm going to crawl underneath and spray some degreaser around to clean it up & make it less obvious!

Is it life-threatening? Is it likely to make your car unsafe? Are you putting too many nasty things into the air?

Didn't think so :cheesy:

Hands up who doesn't have an oil leak...

Should have seen how gunky my tubby's engine was!

As long as it's not dripping, there'll be no problem with the MOT

Both hands in pockets.... mmmm... anyway

I've not got an "oil leak"...yet but the back of the sump is almost slimy with oil and dirt and whatnot..., also, the area around the boost blow off valve does need cleaning every now and again as that gets nice and oily.

I just hope the oil seals in my cooked turbo hold out whilst I need the car this week and then hopefully Niz will have kindly referbed me a replacement turbo to put on, this driving like a grandad is killing me... but the milage I'm getting is at record high for my car.. :)

As long as the oil isn't spewing out all over the road to make hazardous conditions for other drivers, then you should be fine on the MOT.... but then if it did all go, how much of a problem would 5 liters of oil do? pah.

Good luck mate

Actually there is a bit of a drip but it only shows if you've given the car a good thrashing
I'll have a mop up and hide all the evidence!
Cheers Matt :)

A smallish leak won't be a concern to the MOT.

My HDi's block is wet at the back on the bulkhead side, more to the cambelt end - I daren't find out where it's coming from though :|

Oh is Niz still around? I did wonder as he hadn't been here for a while.
I asked him for advice on a huuuuge list of faults and I guess he though sod that!

That maybe my fault then as I've been on to him about my turbo 'issue'....

I've got a list of things as long as my arm (just wish it was as long as something else), but I guess working through them one by one will get there in the end.

btw... how do you quote from a user?

Hit the "QUOTE" button by the post you want (also works from reply, just scroll down to the post)
You can also edit them if so desired :cheesy:

Or do the same thing you did, but in the first box put
whoever you want to quote after the equals and in inverted commers wrote:e.g. (quote="Pope Benny")
