I've bought mine new what feels like a billion years ago, and it has already covered 350k miles. But it's still very much alive and kicking, so I'll see if I can get it going for another 350 000!

Mine is on 211,000 with very few problems except that the o/s sill has just fallen apart, never had rust in a 406 before, its going in to be repaired on Monday, I don't trust myself welding anything that thin.

Amazing! Guess that's not going to be an issue for many owners.

Are those in km? (Even if they are that's still mighty impressive totals of 427000 / 621000)

OMFG!  It'll be km as there's only 1 scale on the speedo, also the money light bulb's blown...

So, stuck at 999,999km, nobody will know if it's done more than that. It's irrelevant as 406's are meant to have burst into flames/exploded/fallen to bits long before that anyway.

You should win an award 8)

yes, in kms.

Problem is I can no longer legally use the 999999km one on the roads here as diesel vehicles have to have a functioning odometer. Diesel here is cheap to buy initially [compared to petrol] but then you have to buy 'road user charges' which are sold in increments of 1000kms. This is a road tax for wear caused by road vehicles in proportion to the wear each class of vehicle is supposed to cause. Charges for light motor vehicles are $68/1000kms, going through to heavy vehicles over 18tons which pay $372/1000kms. If you are caught with a non-functioning or disconnected odometer, fines are huge.

So the poor old pug now sits unused even though it is willing and able. :(

I'm sure you'd be justified clocking it over to all zeros. Not that I'd know how to do that

Buggery bollocks, it'd have to happen in the only country it matters :( Btw I love the way your government robs.. er. charges everyone equally regardless of how fuel efficient their car actually is. You'd almost think they couldn't give a sh*t and just wanted the money.

I have tried to find a way of clocking it over to 000000, every propeller-head I have asked who knows all things about this dark art informs me the 406 cannot be done, Puggot agent also has no idea and new clusters are nla... have been trying to secure s/h cluster/bsi/ecu/key here in NZ but year 2000 2.0HDi with manual tranny is like rocking horse poo.. most are AL4. Been told auto cluster will not work with manual setup. Might have to look in your end of the woods as it seems 406's there are all heading to the big toaster maker in the sky...?

Just before it got to 999999 I paid for another 10000kms road user charges so it is actually valid now to 9655kms to travel legally.

Whatever makes you think our local government would just want our munny..????? :supafrisk:

@Will, did you ever get to resolve your odometer issue?

Nope, have more or less given up with this. The only way I can see doing it with the current cluster/bsi is to replace the memory chips on both the cluster and in the BSI. Not worth the effort as my propellerhead skills are somewhat lacking when it comes to all things binary... I will try to find a replacement ecu/bsi/cluster/key kit sometime.

198,500 on the 407 today. Got it at 74,000 (6.5 years old). Had it for 5.5 years.

86k on the 406 when I got it (and it was only 3 years old). Took it to 205k. Had it for 8 years.

I still miss the arm rest.

The 406 was definitely in better condition when I got it than was the 407.
At 200k and 12 years old I'd say the 407 has worn better, although the quality of the materials and the build on the 406 was definitely better.

110k on the C6. Only done 200 miles in it :(

I know you all hate the satnav in the 406 but it was good enough that I stopped carrying a map.
I suppose it's a peculiar twist of fate that I'm intending retrofitting satnav (RT3) into the C6 keeping the small display (but colour, not orange) like in the 406.
I prefer the 406 Type C display to the large 407 one because it actually shows more information.
On the big screens you have to change between pages for map/climate/trip/radio

Time for an update.

Reached 610.000 kms on the 2.0 HDI today (got it at 277,000 kms).

Seems to be running better and smoother than when i got it.
