Hello
Car:- Pug 406 2.1 12v Diesel Est. 1997.
Boy am I having problems.
It all stems around the engine cutting out when it drops below 2000rpm when hot (running temp)
It started with simple cutting out at junctions, it then progressed to cutting out and or surging when ticking over from 800 – 2500 rpm.
Most of this I have been able to cope with by heal towing and putting a bit more tension on the throttle cable.
It has now progressed to the engine cutting out when hard pressure is but on the brake. When I say hard I mean more than covering it. This pressure on the brake also causes the management light to come on.
When the engine cuts out it won’t bump start, it has to be done on the key following a switch off.
The surging can be cured on tick over by removing the cable to the throttle potentiometer, but obviously this is not a fix, and requires the engine to be stopped and started on the key to reset.
I had it plugged into a Snap On diag. box which found several faults, one of which was me messing with the throttle connection. The one fault code that did come up was No. 202, which had no explanation.
I am inclined to think this is an electrical / ECU problem. When it is bowling along it goes like a train, not missing beat.
I am wondering if it is a faulty throttle pot. Does anyone out there have one I can buy?
The real problem is if it is going to be a costly job is weather the car is worth it. It is not in the best of condition for its age, and I only use it as my secondary / work car (builder).
I am open to any suggestion as to how to fix this, or at least where to start looking. I am reluctant to take it to the stealership.
Cheers
