Hi,
I was told that my ECU might need replacement and it will cost me a bomb. Also the mech said that I cant use a second hand ecu cuz of the immobilizer. is this true? is there a way around it? i really prefer not to have to pay 300pounds on a 600pound car
Cheers

Sounds like bollocks to me.
Replacing ECU's on 406's just isn't neccessary.
More likely to be a problem with the ECU connector Pins or the loom somewhere (admitedly hard to find), James might be more able to assist here but don't go buying an ECU for now.

Aye, they all seem to love replacing ECUs, probably because they've got a huge profit margin on them and it takes 20 seconds to actually do (£100 worth of labour...)
Chances are there's nothing wrong with the ECU. Get a 2nd opinion from an independent garage.

Slap the garage with a wet kipper for telling you lies...... Yes you can change to a second hand ECU, providing the ECU has been powered down for long enough the keypad immobiliser code will have been reset to the original ROM code of 0000 you can reprogram your ECU the same as I did my spare...
What motor is it ?
